We have accumulated loads of camping stuff over the last few years and will soon be buying our 1st van. What things have you kept for use with the van that you had from the tent days? We will look to sell the stuff we dont need to help pay for all the stuff I'm sure I'll want with a van.

I thought keeping our larder cupboard may be useful for the awning plus the tables and chairs etc.

Hi, we've just purchased our first caravan having had tents previously. We have kept a number of things from our camping days including table and chairs for awning, Outwell hanging patio heater for awning, folding bin, folding washing basket, melamine dinner set, cutlery, cadac (just have to cook outside whenever possible), plastic boxes for little packets of sauces, salt, pepper etc. I'm sure there are lots of other things such as torches, lanterns etc. but those are the main ones.

what we did last year when we moved over was keep all teh camping stuff till after we had been away in the caravan a few times. then it was easy to see what we did and  didnt need. we gave some stuff away on freecycal and and sold the rest on ebay to help fune the caravan revamp. good luck hope you love it as much as we do

We reused, our picnic table, the Cadac (of course), two larders, the lafumas, the waeco fridge, sleeping bags for first few trips now gone over to duvets.  Melamine plates and our cutlery, although we've treated ourselves to proper mugs and wine glasses.  Camping bin, camping pans and a couple of the camping side tables, coat hanger thing which hung from the tent poles & of course my Guzzini Pic Boll!!  I think thats about it

I think the only things we sold were the camping cooker/stove & the kitchen unit.  Everyhthing else we kept & still use (as well as all the other 'really necessary' stuff we've accumulated for the van )

Most of the equipment you use for the tent will be needed for the van so suck it and see as suggested.  When we switched, the big problem was getting rid of tents.  We had a loft full of different vintages. Several large frame tents and a number of smalle types.  I could not sell the!  I couldn't give them away!  Thought the scouts might want the six berth frame tents for cookhouses or dining tent but no joy.  I cried all the way to the tip to throw them away!

there are several organisations that take tents etc and ship them over seas to the third world.  better than the tip and good for the feel good factor.  and they "at times" collect.  have done it several times everything is accepted as it gets used. or recycled

If anyones struggling to get rid of good camping gear, and is prepared to take it to Norfolk (Just down the road from the CC Broadlands site) i know of a scoutmaster in Ludham village who is normally pleased to accept it, I gave him my old tent when i bought the caravan, and hes involved with the national scout camp so probably would be able to put it to good use.

Alternatively of course contact your local scout and guide groups
