I have booked a towing course with camping and caravan club for 14th may. Im hoping to use the caravan in the school holidays with my 2 children, my bf and i brought it together however we live seperatly and both have 2 children that we are full time taking care of them. (single parents). bf works so he is not as flexible to get away as me, im a carer for my son (ASD). So I want to be able to tow with confidence when its just me and my two. im currently looking at prestatyn area as it dont seem to far away from were the caravan is stored (nr market drayton) that is were bf lives.
excited but nervous. still bit paranoid that my scenic 1.5 dci 110 fap, with musketeer td is illegal for me to tow but thats the paranoior talking, guess i like to be careful. My mum tells me I indicate too much lol.

Internet gives scenic 1.5 dci as having a kerbweight of 1340Kg. The Musketeer at an MTPLM of 1270Kg. Check your handbooks but if this is correct you are towing at a 94% match. Not recommended for those who have little towing experience. If you obtained your licence after 1997 and don't have the B+E qualification you cannot tow it. You will find the course invaluable.

1385kg kerbweight for my scenic thats exluding driver.
musketeer 1270kg
spoke to dvla and worked out with their support that i was ok to tow and i couldnt go past 4225kg fully laden. the combined weight of the two unladen is 2655 so im under the 3500kg limit.
At 91% match, if you are unsure about towing and want to have that margin for safety you can keep the load in the van down to reduce it closer to an 85% match.

Does it work like that - didn't know that! Good luck with your course - I really want to do one just to show to myself that I can do it - its just me holding me back if you know what I mean!!! Its just the course dates localish to us haven't suited so far - I'm certain it will be of huge help to me particularly if I want to set off and set up all by myself with the kids.
I took a towing course last year with the CC, like you was very nervous but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It does give you some confidence that you know what you are supposed to do. I have only towed the van once on the road but it went well and I will be sharing the towing with OH this year. Have fun and remember everyone there will be feeling the same as you. Good luck
I did a CC towing course back in the 1990s. It was very helpful. I was surprised when I got there that nearly all of the course attendees were women. The instructor explained that that wasn't unusual as 'most men just assume they can tow but women want to be sure that they can'. No comment.

wife and I did the CCC one a couple of years ago. Those trainers are excellent and really professional (ours were professional HGV instructors who were also caravanners.) There was time to do things over and over again until we were confident.Very good sessions on weights and safety etc.
I have been thinking about one myself. I have towed before, used to tow the folding camper no problem. OH used to be in the army and was a HGV tank transporter driver, massive big trucks towing 100tonnes, so when he came along a few years ago I just let him do the towing. We changed to a caravan 5 years ago and he has done most of the towing, I say most, as when we were away one Christmas he was taken ill and I had to drive home. I am fine towing, it is just the manouvering on site and getting it back into the driveway at home that I have the problem with.
He has offered to teach me, but I think it could bring on divorce no.3!!!
Ive just booked to do a towing course too after having just bought a caravan. Im doing the Caravan Club one at Henfield, West Sussex on April 20th.
I have previously owned & driven a motorhome. Have been caravanning before but never towed so very nervous.
Will be towing the caravan for the first time before the towing course but only about 5 miles away for a trial run on a Caravan Club site near me.
Two of my friends are also on the same course so there will be at least 3 women.

I did the C&CC towing course after buying my van and before picking it up. I found the practical part of it really useful - lots of opportunities to get things wrong in the company of equally incompetent people
I did find the theory part a bit boring, but that was only because I'd already asked all of those questions here!
I'm still a novice when it comes to towing - the first few miles with the van on the back of the car still feel a bit weird, but you really do get used to it quickly (unless you're going backwards - I just know it's going to take me years to get the hang of reversing).
