Hello

We have recently bought our first caravan, Its a 2006 coachman wanderer, we looked at loads and loads but the layout etc along with price seemed to fit our needs. We are planning a weekend local at Bridlington as soon as we get a decent weekend (last thing I want is to get a bad impression right from the off due to weather)... The aim is to set everything up and see how it all fits together etc so hopefully I won't make a numpty out of myself on a busier site.....

Main reason we have gone this route is we attend a couple of fairs and events over the year and camping never really suited us/me. Also the aim is to get out more on weekends etc.

It does help having a good friend who has been into the caravan thing for over a year now with a similar situation as us.

I have also used forums for other things and understand the protocol...I do also find them a wealth of information for those who look

Kev

Congrats on getting your van!  Don't worry about waiting for decent weather - you could be waiting for ever.  Just get some waterproofs & wellies & get out there anyway!

err..... every weekend is a decent weekend in Brid....

If your world falls in whilst in Gods own holiday resort give me a call..maybe I can assist. Take your laptop and use this forum.

If you need any accessories then call into Abyss. Find Morrisons and instead of turning into Morrisons car park keep straight on past Currys and then next left. At the bottom of that Cul de Sac you will find a very well stocked accessory shop.

If you need a mobile caravan service engineer  here is one

Have you thought about joining the Coachman Owners Club at all?  We have been members for the past 6 years and actually run a couple of rallies each year on behalf of the club. They hold quite a few rallies up in Yorkshire actually and you can get to go round the Coachman factory based in Hull in September but you have to book early as it's very popular. We are running a holiday rally in Wales for over 3 weeks at £4 per night in July & August which is great value providing you don't mind not having electrics. I usually take my generator so nobody gets stuck for portable power to re-charge their leisure battery. You can see their website at www.coachmanclub.co.uk to get a brief idea what the club is all about and what benefits there are.

Wynnie I think you are exactly right. Our plan is a short trip to Thorp Hall Bridlington. Spoke to the manager and she was very helpfull coupled with the feedback for there site on this website I am sure we are getting off on the right footing.

I also think we will have to bite the bullet and get out rain or shine

Thanks for the welcome all

Don't know where you are travelling from Kevin but if you are planning on going  through Sledmere and turning left on to the B1253 to reach Rudston, don't. Fairly steep hill out of Sledmere. Go via Driffield and keep on the A614. When you get to Brid, at the first Traffic lights, keep in the left hand lane and go straight on and then its second left to Thorp Hall.

Don't use Garrowby Hill (this side of Stamford Bridge) if you are coming from the York area, stick to the A1079 (York - Hull) road to Shiptonthorpe and then turn left at the roundabout To Brid.

Just an easier route

Phil

Kev - A little tip. I used to get a little stressed just before my break and just tried to get to the site as soon as pos set up then relax. Now I just take my time treat my break from the time I leave work. With reference to looking a numpty on site - we have all been there. Besides you will be the entertainment while setting up. There will be bets to see how long it takes to start arguing with your missus.
But most of all dont be afraid to ask fellow vanners if you are struggling - we love to help. Etiquette there is a certain amount its common sense really, join one of the clubs they have printed pages of it - if you abide by it no one will ever hassle you - enjoy your season.
