My caravan has the Truama gas/electric combi space heater unit with the switch to control the fan on either constant or Auto (via a thermostat) located on the top panel LH side.
Last year in October the "fan permanently on" switch became a bit "iffy" (best word to decribe it really) as sometimes it would switch the blower fan on and sometimes not! First trip back on road this week and now the switch is almost impossible to select fan on - if I very gently move the switch to the on position the fan comes on but won't stay on.
I phoned the Caravan service department as van is still under warranty until September this year and they said to bring it in and they will check it out and send the old part away and if proved to be faulty they then and only then order the part.....it sounds a strange way to do business really!
As this all seems a bit of hassle I was wondering if anyone out there had actually experienced this same problem and if so what the solution was to overcome it. As it is on the "electrical side" of the control for fan I don't see why a new unit can be replaced by myself but my thoughts are would a spray over the contacts with WD40 or like product be worth a go (isolating the power supply first of course, then moving the switch on and off to see if the contacts inside switch can be cleaned up!
Any help would be appreciated

Well seeing as you ask! don't go anywhere near it with WD40, that would give them a perfectly reasonable excuse not to help you. You can though try electrical contact cleaner spray, but I doubt you will get it near where it's needed?
These switches often fail and the fault you have is quite a common reason, so at the very least I would expect them to have spare switches in stock. I certainly do!
I would then first, just to be sure, check the loom connections to switch and the fan. If your still sure it's the switch, then take the switch out, (that's easy), take it back and they should be able to test in in five minutes on another van without bothering Truma about it.
On a technical note, the switch is sealed so it either works as it is or it don't.
I tried moving the loom wiring to the switch unit about as you suggested this could have become loose and hey presto it is now working again - fan switches on everytime I move it to constant on setting. Took your advice and didn't use my WD40 spray either.
It would explain things, as it has probably loosened off enough but not come completely out of the switch during a bumpy run. I will try and "fix" the loom wiring so it can't pull out again.
