Hi we recently saw a sprite (think it was anyway!) which had a fixed rear bed and a fixed 2 person dining area (that converted in bunks) - not so bothered about it converting, but loved the layout of the fixed bed and permanant dining table in the middle of the van with the lounge at the front. we are hoping to buy something similar in the next twelve months or so.
can anyone recommend any models that have a similar arrangement please of fixed bed, permanant dining area and seperate lounge area, so we can make an informed choice?
They also have the same layout in the sterling range also Bailey have their version of it . The sterling's/ bailey's are a bit nicer furnished . We had the sprite quattro for 12 months it was a good layout which worked well for a family . The biggest downside is the wardrobe was a bit on the small side so coats , etc always seemed to get dumped on the side dinette area . I liked the layout because it gave me somewhere to sit in the morning until the kids were ready to get up out of bed ! I now have to stay in bed or go & sit in the awning if i get up early :-( . The other bonus is the side dinette easily converts into an extra seating bench - good for when you've got extra visitors down stopping. The only reason we got rid of ours is it had damp in it, a bit disappointing on a 9 month old caravan !
thanks, much appreciated. it would only be for two of us, but we do like 'extra' space and love the idea of the side dinette always available. lots on caravan finder website to look at - any 'downsides/negatives' please? have checked the other posts so n need to repost, but if you have anything specific/important etc please share? i am trying to get my wife to join me in retirement and we like campervans, but dont like the idea of stowng everything everytime we travel off site, so the 'less hassle' option of the fixed bed and dinette seems to fit the bill for us.
It's a big long van for only 2 people ! The sprite you saw is a twin axle i think you can get the same layout on a single axle van which would be easier to manhandle & position on a pitch . The only difference i could see on the single axle versions was the front seats were a bit shorter - 5ft 5 ins against 6 foot on the twin axle models.
Happy hunting on caravan finder it's an ideal site for getting a good idea of layouts etc !
We had a truma /carver euro-master on ours it did the job ok but was an expensive piece of kit , we've had it fitted to the last 4 vans we've had & its 10 years old now so i guess we've had our moneys worth from it ! In all honesty there's not much difference between any of the manufacturers . Power-touch are well rated and come with a 5 year guarantee. The only one i'd discount is reich motor movers as they sit a fair bit lower and i have seen loads with damage to the casings caused by potholes , sleeping police men and driving off kerb stones .
We have a Reich and haven't had any problems at all. I don't think they hang lower at all. I think it's just the fact that they actually do have a casing which can get damaged whereas most others don't have one at all. Although I haven't seen any that are damaged. There was a comparisen on here a while back that showed all the clearances and Reich weren't the lowest. They certainly seem to be the most reliable compared to any others anyway !!!
Anyway. If you have a mover, the space to store it, and the car to pull it, then a big van should give you no problems. Even with our small two berth we use the mover to hitch, unhitch, position on pitch - everything infact. We don't manhandle it at all. That's what the mover is for isn't it ! I think you need two on a twin axel though so it might cost a bit more !
Good luck with your van search - it sounds like an ideal layout for a couple.
we loved this layout so we brought a new elddis 626,it lasted a year !!!! in practice the washroom is cramped small shower,a fold up sink or a sink in the bedroom, area, and access to the bed is restricted, and awkward if the person up the corner needed to get out in the night, storage if you had overnight visitors is also on the tight side
great layout in theory but in practice it didnt work for us

We also have a Reich mover and no problems with it at all, the casing is very good at keeping bits of gravel out of the working parts, something that can be a problem on gravel hardstanding pitches like those used by the CC
