went into our local kwikfit depot to inquire about 2 tyres for my van and was astonished when told they will not touch wheels with tyron bands fitted.on asking the reason why a huge company like this can't provide this service i was told "we dont get the tools to do this ".unbelievable .does anyone know if other major tyre outlets are similar
Yes I had the same response from Kwik-Fit recently and a couple of others companies too when phoning round for quotes. The garages that would change tyres with wheels that have Tyron Bands fitted wanted to charge an extra £50 for the privelage but as I haven't got them fitted I just paid the £150 for the fitting of a new pair of Avon tyres and balancing from Mr. Tyre as Kwik-Fit were too expensive anyway, exactly the same product at £30 more.

i did not want cheap tyres or the most expensive, mid range was fine.i went for brigestone SF 226,kwikfit were £10 per tyre more expensive for the same tyre.saved a total of £30 on three shopping round.and got them fitted on the drive and balanced.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Hi, Get mine fitted a Auchanlee Tyres, The dont have the tool to take of band,But I have, just hand it to them and get it back when tyres fitted, And did not charge any extra for the extra time taken, If you have Tyron bands you should have the band tool that you get with them, mine is always in van.
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.
I think I read in one of the club magazine that tyron have a list of people who will do thius job for you try their website for details. I have tyron bands and am interested in the answer. The trouble with the bands is you dont know how good they are untill the worst happens.
------------- A barman is just a pharmacist
with a limited inventory
Mobile firm Hometyres are able to change no problem - I even forgot my "special key" as left in van cupboard 25 miles away in storage depot but they had the tools onboard their van.
Price was same for tyrons as without! Excellent service!

------------- Have wheels, will travel.... with or without the wife!
E-Tyres replaces two caravan tyres for me with Tyrons fitted and they charged £10 a wheel extra. It did take two attempts as the first time they did not have the special spider clamp to remove the bands but they were back two days later with the correct kit and did the job.
Ha ha special tools for tyron bands done loads just a bit of grit and ruffling an Allan key and presto 10 minutes longer there done and. Charge no extra just helps if we are told they are in !!!
At last a honest tyre fitter, as you say as long as you have the allan key 10 to 15 minutes longer, Hometyres quoted me £77 pound for tyres, as soon as told them i had Tyron bands they said the price was £95 pounds £18 pound each wheel to refit the Tyron band, they must have thought i had just stepped off the Banana boat, i will leave you to guess what my answer was.
Well corakid I am old school and was taught the hard way problem is now a days there's no training as such so most fitters have no clue.... I am also in business and just set my example as don't do it there way!!!!
i think that my new van has got these Tyrons,i was looking through the documents and saw a very long allen key with refference to changing a tyre, now i know what it is.The van will need new tyres but it looks like my luck is in as the local company that i use supplys caravan tyres and does fit runs flats.

Don't know about tyron bands, but it you buy from quik-fit, it is generally cheaper to buy on line. The tyre will then be specially delivered to your local kwik-fit garage (the one on the Lichfield Rd Industrial Estate is nearer to Fort Knox, Trevor), and they will fit it by appointment. Alternatively ring around, get the best price, then ring Motorama up (at the back of the Co-Op Superstore) and ask them to match/ better it. This is what I do everytime I want a tyre for the car. Haven't had to change the tyres on this van yet.
..... I think it's Phil (from Bridlington) who is with 'Tyron Assist'. A company a bit like Green Flag (but they deal specifically with wheels that are fitted with Tyrons). It's a yearly subscrption, but Phil reckons it is well worth it.
