We are looking at 5 year old vans and want a motor mover, Sellers keep telling us how much it cost 5 yrs ago but to me yes it was a big expense but now 5 yrs later its 5 yrs old and not worth that. How long do they last on average?
Having a motor mover is a must to us but perhaps we'd be better putting one on after we find a van.

If you think about it, your motormover is used for at best a couple of minutes each trip, so should last a lifetime. Most companys have no problem offering 5 yr guarantees because of this. Im sure there must be a market for secondhand motor movers, check it out on ebay and see what you might have to pay for a second hand mover and point this out to the van seller.

Actually motor movers tend to hold their value - u can see that from ebay - most sell at between 75 to 90% of new price. There are exceptions to this but I've never managed to get any of them.

our motormover has just reached 5 year old and looked after in every way kept cleaned/painted/greased but it has gone wrong twice in that time and had to be repaired.with a mover it could last 5 years without a problem or it could go on your first trip.the second time was only a dirty contact fault.

We bought our movers in October 2005 and they are still in very good condition i.e no problems to date.

We bought our mover in Nov. 2007, and used it frequently from May 2008 until September of that year, when the gears broke. This was inconvenient to say the least, as we were in Slovakia, four months into a year-long round-Europe tour! We phoned the manufacturers and they sent a replacement part, which OH managed to fit himself. Since then we've had no further problems, despite heavy use.

I got one one on ebay for about £250 I think it was. No problems with it but obviously you take a bit of a chance.
Caravans coming on to the used market now may well have movers fitted that cost £1000 new but time moves on. I think a mover on a caravan certainly makes it more attractive but probably only puts £300-400 on the price at most.

We've had our mover for 5 years now and its as good as new. We had it transffered when we replaced our van 2 years ago and will do that again if we decide to change the van. As previously stated, the mover is only used for a few minutes each trip and, given the robust construction of them, it should never wear out as long as its looked after and greased when you have your van serviced
