  Hi All

    Having moved over from a motorhome and bought a caravan I thought most of the working bits and bobs would be the same , some are and others I'm sure I'll pick up as we go along . However one thing I'm wondering about is jacking the caravan if we have a puncture . Looked at a system that bolted brackets onto the chassis then used a bottle jack ( exspensive ) Can I just use the car jack instead ?????

I think you are referring to what they call the Ko-Jack. It is a good idea but rather an expensive investment especially if you don't use it which most of us hope we never have to. You can use a scissor jack or similar but you have to ensure that you jack up right underneath the axle, then when the caravan is lifted you have to wind down the front and rear steadies just to support the caravan but under no circumstances must you lift the weight of the van solely with the steadies. The problem is sometimes that when you get a flat tyre there is little distance from ground to axle to get the jack underneath so the advice is just pull the van with the towcar onto a piece of timber or ramp just to obtain the height to get the jack underneath.
