Firstly, not all CLs are quiet, we were pitched near to an elderly couple in a motorhome for a couple of nights last week, and they were playing loud reggae music until 2am on both nights they stayed, keeping us awake, when like many people we chose the Cl for its normally peaceful location.

Our neighbours on site last week were 'Full timers' having sold up their house and bought a very nice caravan in which they move around the Uk whilst running a small online business as they go, so Wi-fi connection was important to them, and likewise maybe to you, so worth checking what the coverage would be like before taking on a pitch or room with a view to using it for work. the only time that we have found someone getting a bit of a ticking off for using a caravan as a base for work was when we once stayed at Lakeside in Lincolnshire, and a man there was using his awning at night as a workshop to prepare his joinery fittings for the next day, and was doing a fair bit of loud hammering and banging in the process.

I would say go for it, and im sure you would find a frendly farmer who would rent you out a pitch or even someone who had land to spare around their home,or if all else fails try asking on here and theres a chance someone may have a spare room to let in the area you are working in, which may be a bit cheaper than renting one via an agency who would add their fees.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do anyway

I would think he was a fool to not have you on site if you are going to put in some hours on the shower block. even manhole repais and pot hole filling he is still winning.

an hour a day (as we know that nothing work wise) he is going to be 30quid up on a pitch fee of £100 a week. he wont get a brickie carps or groundworker who worth much inthis part of the country for less than 130 a day and in reality he will get ten hours a week in summer from you. plus you are on hand as watchman for the building works gear and materials at night.

someone have a word with him.

here we have four star holiday cottages and the best tennants are the shopfitters and groups of EU workers who have the cottages (sleep up to six) rented by their company at times. as prev said they just get back watch TV have a beer and sleep early for the next day. and most weekends they are either out for the day or go home.  so many worry about any mess but in truth they are far better than the guest who expects all the knives and forks to be sitting in rows and glasses lined up small to large. if you get the drift.

I have been on about 3 campsites where there were itinerant workers staying there. Two of the sites had completely separate areas for the long stay pitches and one of the sites had their own facilities. The other two sites used the same facilities as the tourists and sometimes I am sorry to say, they washed the day's work off in the sinks and left them rather dirty. I also found on one site that the workers were not too quiet when leaving for work at 5am in their noisy vehicles.

Generally though there was no problem and one site had a pub in which the workers usually had their meals, and a drink together with the tourists, and there was a good atmosphere.

I don't know what they were charged but I chatted to some of them and they all seemed to agree it was cheaper than a B&B or lodgings and those that were paid a fixed amount for accommodation could make a bit of extra cash by staying in a caravan.

Strictly speaking, campsites are licenced for leisure activities, work is not usually considered a leisure activity, so the site could be in breach of their licence by letting you stay. However some do seem to allow this (turn a blind eye). Another issue you will face is that some (CC and CCC) have a limit of 21 or 28 days maximum stay, so you would need to move off after that length of time. Some people alternate between two local sites to get round this. During the summer holiday periods fee's can be high so may not work out cheaper that renting a room, but may be more homely, as it's your own space.

Best bet would be to look for a CL/CS site or local farmer.

What area of the country will you be working?

Jules

I have just started and it's in the Surrey/West Sussex Border Area and I'm currently staying in hotels which are costing around £200 per week.

I think I've found a local CS site, going to give him a call tomorrow. Advertised at £12 per night with EHU, far more reasonable than £34 per night the other one wanted.

If it pans out then I will be swapping my folding camper for a tin top.
