Well, I have completed my first trip away this year in Holi.
Very proud of myself as it was the first time I have towed solo and we all made it to the site in one piece.
OK, I only towed a few miles but now I know I can do it, I feel more confident in going away again without OH.
Hey
Congratulations on going away solo and on the towing alone! I tow but hubby always comes. I'd love to go solo but I have a problem with my arms and shoulders so can't set up alone....
Perhaps I could ask for help on arrival but that may be pushing the friendliness bit!

Took a break like everyone over covid, flogged the caravan and got a campervan!

hi we just arrived back from our first trip of the season, only went to local cl site about ten miles from home just to make sure every thing works on van before we start on our longer trips.this is the first year we didnt go in winter time, had a lovely relaxing time just cant wait to go again.
------------- its easy enough to be pleasant when the world rolls along like a song.but a man is worth while if he can smile when every thing goes f------ wrong.
Yay well done you. Our first trip this year was interesting for me, hubby came over ill half way there and we made it to the site just as his energy reservs gave up and he collapsed on the sofa with me a 7 y/o, a 9 y/o and two dogs!!! 2 hours later we were level awning up, pegged, water waste electric and lasagna in the oven. I slept well that night but was proud of me and the kids. We did it. Poor hubby recovered next day and was proud of us too.
------------- Oh am loving the tin tent after campaining against it..........I was wrong.
We took ours out first weekend of the season as well was going great till we was nearlly there and realised never had daughters clothes trip to Tescos and dog house for me :)
Wow thats fantastic - well done you, doing all that by yourself!! We are aiming to get me towing solo by July so currently looking at a manoeuvre couse with CC. But its all the other jobs that OH does which I'd need to learn which worry me, like getting the caravan off the drive with the mover, hitching up, mirrors, winding the steadies up and down and then setting up the caravan once we arrive, not to mention levelling if necessary. I think I fear getting in a pickle over all that more than the actual towing part!! I'd never manage the awning that would just have to wait for OH to arrive
Have to say my reversing skills were rubbish!! Thank goodness I have such a tiny caravan that can just be pushed into place!!!
Dreading the day I have to use the levelling ramps but steadies down and hooking up were a breeze. Awning is my next step - think I'll just have to stick with the one that came with Holi as I can't find one anywhere that fits her (and doesn't cost more than I paid for the caravan in the first place!) If I stand on the caravan step I can feed it through the awning channel on my own (another advantage of having a small van!!)
Really looking forward to going away again in 2 weeks time.
we were away last week to a wee site in biggar ,that was our first outing ,weather stayed fine but i forgot hubbys jacket so he didnt have any ,well he should have checked i think as hes a grown man !
