Hi. Just got a new van and I'm struggling to get the cowl cover off (very tight) has anyone else had this problem. I was trying to check how everything works before I go away for the first time. Do you need to remove the cowl cover to us any gas appliances or is it just for the hot water heater.

only required for gas hot water is the cover. there is a cheap tool you can make for this. see here from wizards site.i use a handle used for the loose tray in the house oven.

Thanks for the replies. The cowl cover on my van is different from the one in your picture. On my van the bit you have clipped onto is at the bottom of the cowl and the top has two little catches (like the one on your van) with nothing to grip.I tried sliding the cowl up a bit and pulling the bottom out but I feel as if I am pulling hard and with my luck I'll break something. I thought the same that it looks like you pull it from the bottom but it does not come off easily.

As I found out last week. I gave it a tug too much and the cowl cover came off all right, and took a piece of the plastic cowl from underneath off as well. Now it will not secure back on so I am left with the option of leave it off or pay £40+ for the heater cowl and cover. A bad design indeed. They should have just left it as it was as per the pic above. If it ain't broke and all that!

Try pressing in on the cowl in the area which would be around the bottom of the tool that is being used in the picture. When you do this the clip opens slightly and you can just pull it off.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Thanks for all your replies. The solution was to press the top down firmly with one hand whilst pulling the bottom part with your other hand.

There is a little diagram inside that tells you where to push - but I can never remember and always end up on my a**se when trying to heave the bloomin' thing off ! Perhaps the diagram should be on the outside !!!! Must remember .... press top down, pull bottom, press top down, pull bottom,.......
