We are looking at replacing our van with a van thats 2 years old.

The dealer suggested that we may get more money if we sell our own van separately.

If we do put our own van on the market what extras should we be giving in the price and what extras should we be expecting from the dealer.

I'm a bit worried if I give away the water and waste containers. hookup lead, water pump etc that I may have to buy them again for the new van, and if I dont throw them in then I may not get a sale.

Can I draw on the experience of the members on this board please.

You should get a water pump and a hook-up lead with the new van, so let them go. The pump could well be different anyway. Maybe throw in the step.

But waste and water you need to keep. I would leave the battery in the van (unless it is very new), but keep the gas bottles.

That is how we sold ours. We sold on Preloved, and got a good discount on our new van from the dealer.

If he offers extras instead, you could ask for an awning and a new battery, plus anything else you need.

I would normally expect the pump to be with the van, but everything else is negotiable eg if your awning will fit your new van then keep it but if it won't make it part of the deal for you old one. Dont get rid of anything you are going to need.  Second hand outfits with all accessories tend to be from peaple giving up caravanning.  Do squeezy your dealer for as much as you can get, as it seems he would rather not take your old van in part exchange.

Not necessarily the case. Our dealer advised us that our age/price of van was easy to sell secondhand, told us the PX they would offer (which was a pretty good one), gave us a price for the new van without PX, and suggested we try to sell ours first before deciding what to do.

Hi Momac

Sell the lot! BUT, it may be worth you advertising your awning seperatly if you have one, most average good second hand awnings are about £150/250 and are always in demand.

Your new caravan at 2 years old should come also with everything, if not, why not, and if not get them thrown in with the price!

If you do not then have a PX caravan you are in the 'driving seat' in the showroom and negotiate negotiate negotiate.

I would expect minimum 10/12% off the new caravan asking price for cash, then when you have agreed the final caravan price just when the salesman thinks he has got you start on whats going to be for free in with the price, hitch lock, wheel lock, wheel lock nuts free service etc, anything else that's missing, only a poor salesman will let you out of the showroom without your sale.

Good luck

Mike
