We were cleaning our caravan today and when we did the roof we noticed that there were some cracks on it. They are pretty big - about 12 inches long. We bought it brand new, and it is one year old just last March. I will contact the dealer about it in the morning but was just looking for some advice.
I have tried to put a picture of the crack below, there is also another similar single crack.
Is this the first time that you have cleaned the roof since collecting the caravan? If so then the default may have been there all the time without noticing it previously. Like buzzahole said, aluminium doesn't crack so it has to be a default in the material itself which should have been rejected before despatch from the factory. As you can't see the roof prior to collection then I think that you may have a valid case as the fault was impossible to detect visibly. Contact the dealer as soon as possible and see what their views are but the case could be argumental in the fact that the deep scratches were caused whilst towing and a collision occurred with branches from low overhanging trees. If that becomes the case then you will find it quite difficult to prove otherwise whether the fault lies with the manufacturer or whether the damage was caused after purchase.
Never heard of a van roof cracking,if they were cracks you would have water coming in.Aluminium can suffer from metal fatiqued, and cracks when it is flexed, push one side of the crack down and if you see a hole its cracked,if not its a score.
