Definately off the tyre when not in use, and fully retracted if you have the wind on type, as not to catch the tyre as it expands due to friction on the road surface causing heat, and the centrifugal force which in turn narrows the gap between tyre and rollers whilst underway
It wouldnt take more than a couple of metres with the mover engaged whilst towing or in storage by manually pushing it to break the motor drive inside if the van was moved by anything else than its own motor whilst the mover was engaged, so best get into the habit of taking it off the tyre and switching it off at the key as soon as you have finished using it, and always make sure you have your handbrake on first after use before disengaging the roller, or theres nothing to stop the van rolling away once the movers are off the tyre.
