hello, still finding my way around here so I hope I'm not wrong posting here ? We need to get a groundsheet & my OH was just going to buy a tarp, but I gather that we really should get a breathable groundsheet. But - crumbs there are so many & I'm totally clueless about them.
Some of them look as if they're made of real soft stuff. Though I'm sure that would feel lovely underfooot I don't want something that's unlikely to last very long especially on twiggy/stony pitches.
Hi La-la, And Welcome to the forum, Dont have a ground sheet, but know the CClub sites prefer you to use the breathable type as is dose less damage to grass, GO Camping stores have a good selection of them,Caravan accessory shops, no dought there will be other members on here shortly to help and give you better advice on the type and quality of sheet you are looking for,and where to buy them and at good prices.

Dorset Paul, is `the Range' a shop then ? Maybe I should phone one of the stores that sells them as what I really need is some advice about the pros and cons of different types.
Oh & thanks for the welcome too John I know some forums have a bit where new people are supposed to post 1st to introduce them selves but I couldn't seem to find one here sorry, here I am anyway !
Hi La-la, you are welcome,no need for introductions on here, the number in the post under your location tells us you are new, I just did the same as yourself, said hello and posted, good luck in your search.

Hi, if you are using a grass pitch then i think alot of sites prefer breathable groundsheets to keep the grass 'alive'! Some sites state that groundsheets must be lifted daily!
Obviously the quality of the groundsheets dictates how much you pay. When we got our first caravan i found this website: www.breathablegroundsheet.co.uk which was useful to see different types of groundsheets available.
We use mostly hard standing pitches and have a PE groundsheet first and then a Carpetina on top. We would like the Isabella Bolon groundsheet but it is expensive.
We have an Isabella Bolon groundsheet which was thrown in when we bought our folding camper recently. Can't comment on it yet as not been able to get away, but it is quite thick and does look very nice, matches the campers top beautifully!
Good luck in your search, I would say buy the best you can afford.
We have just changed our groundsheet from a Kampa to an Isabella Bolon (pattern is called Line I think). Kampa was fine but a bit rough on the feet and as we often sit on the floor with the children it wasn't too cosy so when we saw and felt the Bolon at the NEC caravan it is much smoother and cosy so took advantage of the show discount and bought that and its great and will hopefully last us forever. We bought ours in two pieces so it could be used in the porch and full awning.
From our experience don't be tempted to get the cheaper rubber sort with open holes, like the one shown below.
When the ground gets wet all the moisture and mud comes up through the holes and they don't seem to do the ground a lot of good either if it's wet. We've given up using ours altogether.
Thanks evenstephen that's useful to know, just the sort of info I'm after. Really don't want to find stuff like this out once I've it's already bought.
Fiona - how good is your one at keeping the wet out ? Actually that Kampa one you mentioned might be fine for us... don't mind it being a bit rough as no doubt ours will get pretty mucky with our dogs so can't see us sitting directly on the g/sheet.
Basically we need anything super-duper but don't want to waste money on something rubbishy either.
