I'm thinking of changing our shower hose/head as it is very heavy and likely to cause some damage to the shower cubicle if dropped. Has anyone else done this? and are the fittings standard sizes?

The hose ends are a standard thread, so no problem changing.  don't go to a caravan shop for the fitting as you will pay a lot more than in a diy store.  Just remember that you have limited water availability so dont go for a head designed for high volume delivery.  The type used for low power electric showers would probably be suitable.

The problem with a shower in a caravan is that you have to be economical with water as it is delivered from a barrel outside. Therefore you have to turn on the hot and cold taps each time to rinse off the soap etc. and this can be a daunting task trying to get the water temperature exactly right each time and doing so, much water is wasted. I bought one of these Charisma shower heads for our caravan and the beauty of it is, once you have your temperature set you just press the lever on top which halts the flow of water. When you press the lever again, hey presto! it's the same temperature so you not only save time and water but you don't consumed wasted valuable 12 volt power either. They are not cheap but but a good long term investment and if you change your van you can take your gadget with you and put the old one back in. If you are interested in purchasing one then shop around first as the prices can somewhat vary.
