We use our caravan a lot in europe and a campsite washing machine is about 6 euros a wash-needless to say Ive done planty of hand washing!! Does anyone have any experience of these camping "twin tubs?" Which ones are the best and a reasoble stockist? Thanks in advance for your help!

The Meh'm Sahib got one from Towsure and while she used it a lot initially, it now sits in a rather forlorn condition in the back of the garage. They are fairly heavy and the space it takes up and the weight [MPG] over a prolonged distance seem to me to outweigh the financial benefits. These are of course my views only.

Thank you-all views welcome! I enquired about buying one at a very large camping shop in Spain and they told me just about the same- forget them! Just 24 eauos a month seems like campsite owners are making a lot of money out of me!

It depends how long you stay in one site.  We met a couple at Kiko Park in Spain who were spending the winter there, and were thrilled with  their twintub machine.  I think it was the same make as the one in the Towsure catalogue, but they'd got it online much cheaper - about £70.  It holds a lot less than a launderette machine, of course, so you'd probably have to do 2 or 3 washes a week.  You can get some makes of machine for less than £60, so it would pay for itself in less than 3 months.  But if you prefer to tour around it's not so practical.

On a serious note - I have wondered about getting one of those camping washers too, so this thread has been a help. Thanks.

We have been using the Towsure Twin Tub for 3 years now, it has been to the south of France, the north of Norway, and is now on its way to Switzerland.

I generally try to do a few loads every 6 days or so. Unless clothes are really dirty, I find I can start with the whites and continue with the coloureds just by topping up with more hot water.I use a liquid detergent.

I generally wash everything first, and as it is ready I send OH to the sinks to rinse, this saves fetching/emptying so much water. If we have a serviced pitch then we can do it all on the pitch. The tub holds 17 litres of water.

As he brings each batch back I spin it and hang it up. The machine washes really well, and the spinner is very effective.

The wash timer has 15 minutes on it, this is usually long enough, but you can just set it again if need be.

The only items I do not use it for are our king size duvet cover and our large bath towels. They are too heavy/bulky for it when wet. When they are due a wash I make up a load of coloureds with OH's jeans and whatever else needs doing and use the site machine.

We do 3 month trips, generally stopping for about 5 nights at a time, so it has had about 10 months use so far, so I reckon it has paid for itself. Its not that heavy, we keep it under our fixed bed, I can lift it very easily.

Dont know what make it is but they are in all Camping shops, i paid around £60 for mine from Torksey Caravans we were staying at a site near there and was having a look round .I have never seen one anywhere at that price but i think they are worth it,  when you look at the price of camp sites washing machines and laundrettes    being  are full timers we save money.
