Hi Ness, posted this a while back, produced it for a mate who was just starting out:
Things you need to Caravan.
1. A Tow hitch on the back of your car with double electric hook up.
2. A large wheel levelling ramp with chocks to lock the wheel in place once on it.
3. Chocks to lock the second wheel in place if needed.
4. Waste container, one with wheels and a handle is best.
5. Waste pipes for back of van with two joints, available from any Caravan shop by the metre, check you purchase the right size, these come in different widths.
6. Water container, Aqua rolls or similar are best as you don’t have to carry distances when the tap is a good distance away.
7. Water Pipe for getting the water from the tap into your water container. Variable flange head is best to fit any sized tap.
8. Water system cleaner, you fill your system with this and leave it in place in the system for 24 hours before using. You then flush it out with clean water, your water system is then safe to use for drinking purposes.
9. A new water filter for every season.
10. A clothes airer for outside, plus pegs to hang items with.
11. A Clamp to mount the clothes airer on your jockey wheel.
12. A TV cable with the right fittings to get from your TV output to your TV.
13. A TV of the right size for the van?? With DVD and digi receiver if needed.
14. Standard double fitted sheet, preferable mattress topper type, these fit your cushions at the front to make a double bed for you.
15. Two single fitted sheets, normal will do for the kids.
16. Spare pillows for beds, it’s surprising how many first timers don’t take them.
17. Sleeping bags are ok in vans but we’ve found that standard duvets for the adults are just fine and more comfortable.
18. Washing up Bowl to take you washing up to the sinks to clean if you don’t want to use your sink in your van.
19. Plastic plates and cups for the van.
20. A small spirit level for getting the level of the fan right when parking it.
21. A towing mirror for the car, clips onto your wing mirror, not absolutely essential, but good for inexperienced towers.
22. Camping system toilet paper, standard paper doesn’t break down in the effluent system if you use it, and can clog it. The camping stuff breaks down more.
23. Pink and Blue effluent system fluids. Pink goes in your flush, blue goes in your sytem to make the effluent safe and break it down a bit.
24. Small vacuum cleaner, the one you use for your house is perfect, lots of caravaner’s purchase these for their vans.
25. Spare square battery for smoke detector.
26. Four plug short extension lead, at least one, there are not a lot of plugs in vans, you will need at least two for the tv and only have one.
27. Hangers for clothes in the airing cupboard.
28. A low powered kettle, most outputs on campsites pop the fuse on the campsite at KW. Any other high usage electrical items you might take like additional heaters, toasters, etc should be low wattage.
29. A steady winder, to drop the steadies.
30. 31. A set of spare fuses for the van.
31. Small tool set.
32. Bottle opener for wine.
33. Gags for Children whilst setting up the van.
34. Number plate with your No on it for the back of the van.
35. Bunjee’s for attaching the waste containers together when taking them to empty.
Other things to consider.
A set of tow nose scales.
A replica of the drugs cabinet you have at home for the kids, plasters, graze cleaner etc.
DS’s and chargers for rainy days.
When raining swimming happens most days, so detangle conditioner for hair, camp site pools tend to have lots of chlorine.
Board games for when your bored.
Mats for outside the van, to wipe feet on.
Light weight pots and pans so you don’t have to keep unloading each time you go out with the van.
Lots of DVD’s for when the TV reception in the area is p*ss poor.
Spare water container for when you run out in the middle of the night.
Big stick for beating the kids with.
