We have seen plenty of handyman made steps complete with handrail attachement, most are made out of half inch ply sides and treads with 2x1inch rail, and fitted with non-slip matting such as rubber type car mats to the treads. Ok not as lightweight as the aloy ones, but a lot lighter on the pocket and sturdy made.

We did see one which had storage incorporated under the treads, used to keep their dogs bowls, teather and grooming kit whlist in transit!

we got a good set from from knowpark caravans in livingston, my son has physical disabilities and is very unsteady on his feet and have found that having the wide footplate on the bottom helps. the handrail can be fitted to any side by moving a bolt.the handle is a bent single pole NOT a hoop.  it was 65 pounds.
