We're off on tour again next week which obviously meant roast Beef last Sunday.
Joint large enough to be used on Monday for a Shepherds Pie for the two of us + two extra pies made in those tin foil dishes with the cardboard lids. Froze those ready to take with us. They will have thawed by the time we reach our destination and then, once the caravan has been set up and the wine opened, we can pop them in the oven for half an hour, boil up some veg and dinner is ready with the minimum of effort.
Tuesday and round to Tesco for the cream cheese and digestives and the wife made a cheese cake. Cut it into 8 slices and froze it. Two slices in to a number of empty "I can't believe its not butter" tubs and then we can take four pieces with us. Two will have thawed for dinner on the first night and the other two remain in the freezer in the van for later in the week.
Wednesday and its baking day. Current buns become spotted dick and custard in the vans microwave. Plain Buns with a bit of jam and custard added become a jam songe in the vans microwave. Chocolate buns with a melted chocolate topping and ice cream.....another delightful dessert. Pack them in a tin and they are ready to be packed in the van.
Thursday and its time to visit the wine aisle...now how many days are we away? What goes well with Shepeherds Pie?
Friday...well there is this wedding thing on tomorrow so thats a good day to fit up the self watering system in the greenhouse so that the Tomatoes get their nourishment whilst I am away. Bake a loaf or two of bread and freeze it ready to take. Once you have walked to the top of a Fell you can't beat a sandwich made from homemade wholemeal bread and Wensleydale cheese as you sit there enjoying the view. Preparation is all.
Saturday; better start weighing stuff and packing it into crates. Puriclean the water hog. Fendox the waste hog; check maps
Sunday and its time to take everything to the van. Make the bed up. Check that the tyres have the right pressure and inflate if required.
Monday and we are ready to go
So much to do and so little time or do you just throw everything together at the last minute and go?
Phil
