We have a Kampa Rally Awning. In some very gusty winds the awning did ok, but the back pole came out and ripped the small pocket it sits in at the top - what is the best way to fix it? It isn't visible so strength rather than beauty is important (it also is internal so doesn't have to be waterproof). Probably only 2-3 inches to seam - am I best to try & sew it or would adhesive be best?
I have just repaired a badly ripped frecycled tent with Insignia cloth which is an adhesive backed nylon taffeta material used mainly for the lettering on sails. It's the same stuff as you get in the tent repair kits. The repair is stronger than the original material. The advantage of insignia cloth as opposed to the repair kits is that you have a wider choice of colours so you can match your awning/tent fairly closely. It is also sold as a tape (basically just a slice off a roll of cloth) called Spinnaker tape, but it's a very expensive way to buy it.

Tenacious tape will be best. Its clear so its not really that visible and as you say since its internal if it needs a couple of patches then i believe it will be as strong as the original pocket.
