We have an annex an our Dorema Exclusive full awning and on our light weight Kampa Fiesta. We tend to us the annex for storage and it houses our 2 dogs beds. In the summer our daughter comes away with us and she prefers to sleep in the Dorema annex.

Thanks for your replies, good to see they don't seem to cause a problem with pitch size. If we get one we would probably use it as a sleeping area in good weather just to save making up the bed, but I can see it would be really handy to store the extras that we take on a longer trip.
you will find some sites wont allow them, some will charge for them and some dont care, weve only used ours once in 2 years, when we had 3 adults a 3 kids in the van.
We got an annexe a couple of weeks ago, we've changed the caravan and managed to drop on an annexe for the Dorema awning that came with it for £50 on preloved. Just got back from 9 nights away and DS slept in it and basically lived in it for the whole time! He's 18 in a couple of weeks and this gives him his own space, he loved it.
We have a three-quarter awning which is fine for a short break but if we're on a site for more than a week we add an annex. This can be a problem with some pitches if the pitch is particularly short or if there's a grass bank or similar immediately to the rear of the pitch, so you have to choose your pitch with that in mind.
In summer we use the annex for all kinds of things: a dining area, a clothes drying area, storage. As it's to one side of the van, and has no windows, it keeps things "out of sight, out of mind", and leaves the main awning clear for lounging.
Never had a problem with sites charging extra - it's part of the awning after all. As long as you remain inside your pitch there's no problem.
