Husband and I are looking at treating ourseves to a couple of recliners and were wondering if Lafuma were worth the premium? fancy the ones where you can add a foot rest.

I went for a copy of the recliner Lafuma so that I could leave them outside without worrying about them being nicked. Lafuma are definitely worth the premium if weight and quality is what you want.

We went for a copy and foot rest from our local dealer. Had it about 2 years and no problems.

Some of the copies are a lot heavier than the Lafumas, I bought a Kampa Extravagance version last year but will only be using it at home on the patio for this season due to its bulk and very heavy steel frame.

Just bought a couple of argos umbrella type folding reciners for this season for around £28 each, and there the new grey version, and much better than the navy blue ones pictured in their catalogue.

Get the real ones! we have had our 15years now. We brought them in France as you could not get them here. They are still a current model so the design must be right. Last year I changed the elastics with genuine spares they have had a wet vac too, and they are like new.

So yes expensive but they they last for 15 years.

We've had a pair of copies which we bought from 'Another' Caravan magazine as a special offer eleven years ago. They cost just £39.00 the pair and have been absolutely fine for eleven years of 'home and away' use.  They look like the Lafuma in the picture and are as comfortable as the Lafuma.  People think they are Lafuma.

212

They weigh 0.7 of a kg more than the Lafuma which was available at the time, but they cost us £140.00 less.  In those days that was enough to pay our campsite fees for a fortnight!

They are still in good condition, but last year we decided to replace the elastic.  Unfortunately the tension was too tight across the seating area and stretched the seat fabric, which we can see will eventually split.  We're going to replace them with copies, which this time will cost £70.00 the pair!

We've tried and tested them all  - we've been shopping around this weekend - Lafuma, Riviera, Kampa, HiGear, Royale, and other unbranded versions and to be honest there is very little in them all to justify the extra price of the Lafuma.  If you do buy LaFuma then take a serious look on-line as the prices can vary enormously for exactly the same lounger.  Be careful, too, with the weight - don't assume LaFuma are always lighter - some weigh more than the new ones we intend buying!

We have a pair of Lafumas padded RSX recliners and they are fantastic.  I use them home and on holiday, the are so comfy and sturdy and I think that they will last a life time.  However, OH moans because they are bulky and are heavy at around 7kgs a chair - but he's still happy to nod off in one!

Our old ones are 'Unknown' make - no indicators, but everyone who's seen them thinks they are Lafuma.  They came from an offer on P........l Caravan magazine eleven years ago, but were actually despatched to us from JustKampers (who still advertise on this forum, but don't have any similar loungers on offer now).

New ones will be from Wilkinsons, unbranded, but exactly the same as the Royale's we saw in Booths in Ilkley but £5 each less!

We did toy with the idea of waiting until we get to France as our old ones will be good enough for another three week holiday - and if we see any cheaper ones we may buy them there instead.

I was on Lafuma and Lafuma copy 'lookout' in France for several years before we bought our Lafuma copy from a local garden centre. I never found any 'bargains' and was more often astonished by how expensive leisure chairs can be in France, even in an Auchan where they were on discount. Generally, Decathlon is the only place I have found to get a bargain for camping gear in France.

Thanks Val, trying to find some decent chairs that preferably weigh under 5kg each (we need 4) and won't break the bank as well!

We decided to buy the Lafumas as they were so much lighter than any others we looked at.We also bought two matching fold up stools rather than the attaching footrest as they suited our needs better. We have the Cham Elips chairs that only weigh 2.8 kgs. Don't know how long they will last but find them really comfy.

Sorry, only just saw this post. I put two in the bin on site yesterday as the quality was abysmal to say the least.
We bought 3 two seasons ago and we are not overweight or clumsy but have managed to destroy them. On one it was the recliner mechanism that gave way meaning you jolted backwards at any given time and the second my wife managed to snap the plastic insert in both legs clean in half. The recliner mechanism had also gone on that one.
Our friends have had the Dukdalf for years so, I will be replacing with them.
