It's not the first time the caravan club have done this sort of thing either. Kia would frequently get excellent reviews and win tow car of the year on a regular basis. Was that because of the car or did it have anything to do with the ammount of money they pay the club in sponsorship and advertising. Whilst I don't want to argue about the suitability of the cars, I suspect money influenced the reviews and judging to some degree.

I've not opened the May magazine yet and probably won't unless I get really bored. I don't find much of it of any interest (I did like the series last year about the credit crunch caravanning though). But having said that most of the caravan magazines are the same regurgitated reviews of the same caravan they reviewed a year ago that now has a new opholstery and some cosmetic changes. At least the club magazine doesn't cost an extra £5 a month.

If we did have to pay for it, there would have to be a choice.  I wonder how many members would decline taking it?  would it be worth £60 a year?

Bertie.

As I see it this is all very simple, if the CC writes an article and places it in their own magazine then they are endorsing that product, so by placing the bits about CC caravan insurance in their own magazine they are simply promoting their own product which is what the CC magazine is all about.

If another company wants to place an article in the CC magazine they have to enter it as an advertisement, unless they can persuade the CC to endorse it. So they pay to have the advert placed. If the advert gives the impression that the CC endorsed its point of view and the CC did not do so then the CC is quite right to say so.

One advert ( their own ) they endorse, the other (the advert ) they do not endorse and say so. I don't see what the problem is.

Excellent post. Spot on!

Dave
