Day One
Off on tour again and considering it was a Bank Holiday Monday where was all the traffic? Easiest journey ever. Passed some couple on the M18 without proper mirrors as they towed their van! Oi Copper look at me I'm so unlawful!. Caravanning on the cheap. Who cares about the laws of England, No one has ever pulled me up so it must be Ok!! Oh Dear. Mmm Mirrors about £40ish but the fine is up to £1000. Shakes head
Anyway, Leek CC site. What an absolute joy this place is. Decided that on our way to the Breckon Beacons we would not do the whole journey in one, but stop off somewhere and decided to stay here. Never walked the Roaches before so why not?
First cut is the deepest is on DVD from the great Mr Sewart so I have to pause now to sing along........Ah that's better
Anyway, why would anyone go to Leek for a holiday? I ask you....why bother? YES YOU MUST. Fabulous site. You're in my Heart now from Mr Stewart....the wife has little tears down the cheek.
If you come here go towards the back to miss the main road noise. What a spot...I cannot wa lyrically enough about this spot. Never been here before and what I have missed. Peace, tranquility, sun trap, wow
Anyway, the price of custard in the Leek Co-Op is unbeleiveable. The wife nearly went on line to ask TESCO to deliver direct to the caravan. Bring your own custard if you come here. I had the wife going on about it all last night!!!!!
Oh the things we worry about when we caravan. Its the sort of problem you get when you don't have a care in the world
You have to come here for Luds Church. We walked there today. Its been on our list for years and finally we went. If you like a moorland walk, into woods, and back onto a rocky edge, with a magnificent spectacle in the middle...this is it. You need to go when the sun shines so that you get the magic of light and shade picking out the wonderful colours of moss, ferns and plants hanging to the side of the chasm. YOU REALLY MUST VISIT............
Some cheeky begger had taken one of the finger posts signs out for Roach End and discarded it and put in its place a finger post sign to the next village south when we needed to go east...trying to send us all the wrong way...so if you come have an OS map!
Had bananas and ice cream for afters today...."we're not having pudding with custard at that price she said." God a day later and it still wrankles.
Couple turned up tonight in a small two berth. So small you could push it into place with one hand. They used the motor mover. Didn't level...just put the legs down. Didn't bother to do the water, the toilet or the gas. Just arrived...parked and got the chairs out and sat in the sun and had a banana. Me...I turn up and do all the services whilst the wife packs the inside van's lockers....put the awning up etc etc all in about 2-3 hours hard work. This couple.....press the button on the remote...park it and sit in the sun.........wish I could be so laid back!!!!
See you all later
Phil
