They say they specialise in older vans, have been in the caravan business for 30 years and are a "decent caring family business" but I can't see any reference/reviews to them on the internet other than a throwaway comment from someone about the vans they had in stock under £2k all being damp...!

Has anyone on here used them or have an opinion?  They don't appear to offer any warranty but do say they offer certificates for gas/roadworthiness and habitation.

Lived around there for some time and had relatives in the area until a couple of years back so were regular visitors to the area. Never heard of them....and we visited Loudhams and kenmore in the area when looking at vans as we always thought they were the nearest to Middlestown (where the relatives lived). Where are they located?

Certificates....bet they are well worded!!!!

Weeellll ... they're just off Bridge Road on the A642 and from a quick look on googlemaps it's fair to say that you wouldn't be calling it the poshest caravan showrooms in Yorkshire , but that wouldn't necessarily mattter.  It was just that they only seem to have a mobile phone number, which always worries me a bit.

I went the other day and most of their vans were quite old and most were quite tatty too. They had a few around £2.5k that were pretty dire. Tatty outside and tired in. They had one or two newer models, but I would hardly call them a 'dealer' like the likes of Dickensons in Bradford, or Kenmore.

Nice people that run it, and they do have the odd van that they sell on without any warranty or claims about its state. But they make this known. Each van has a gas check whether trade banger or not.

Thank you both, they had a Swift Challenger in there that I thought might be worth a look but perhaps I won't race to get down there.

Jacqui - years ago I used to go to ravensthorpe fairly often to visit family but I don't remember Derek's caravans ... where abouts was it? (it's got me curious!!)

they were behind the drive through dry cleaning place on the main road through from mirfield to dews. they were also known as dodgy derecks.

that says it all

only went to look once then they disappeared. went to mitchells as it was then and going back over bridge to horbury saw their sign. popped in and soon as we saw him we remembered as we were looking at a caravan when he was at ravensthorpe and he was worst than del boy everything was a five minute job and cost first £10 then in next breath £20. the caravan we were looking at was advertised as a 4 berth but looking inside didn't have a bunk thus 3 berth and he said he could sort it out (a 5 minute job)

We went there last year after seeing a couple of vans on autotrader, if your a first impressions person don't waste your time. All of the vans were in some way damaged or dirty (awaiting preperation sitckers in window), I was interested in a van at £5995 when we looked inside there was severe damage to a panel when asked if he would replace it he said "no but I will stick a mirror there". I wasn't filled with confidance to be honest!

I can just about see them from my back garden, and have passed them many times, but never really had the inclination to call in.

Seems I'm not missing anything then.

If you want a caravan for that price you are better buying it off ebay. No dealer will give a worthwhile warranty against damp on a £2k caravan.

I drove past today,  had some time to kill before collecting my daughter so i thought i would have a look.

I have to say the stock had seen better days, there are a range of vans from £1.5K to £7K, most of them had been very well used and the exterior of the majority were shabby.

I agree with Tentz re ebay, we are on our 2nd caravan from ebay and both times we have fallen very lucky, we only paid £3200 for our current van which came fully loaded including 2 awanings, you would not get anything near this at Horbury in fact the one he had in today for £3195 did not have any extra's and was no where near as good quality as our 2000 Abbey Vogue 5 berth
