I have thule roof bars, roof mounted cycle carrier and box... I want to take my bike to France with me in July, plus roof box - can I take both on the roof together? I think the box is an Ocean 100.
If I move the box over as far as but within the brackets that hold the bars to the roof, I can then attach the cycle carrier... but the front mounting bracket of this carrier would then need to overlap (inside and outside of ) the bracket holding the bars to the roof.
The box can open and close with the bike in place (though its better to remove the pedals). BUT... Is this safe practice to have both together? Is it better to have a rear mounted cycle rack in this situation?
My car is a Skoda Fabia without factory fitted roof rails.
You would probably get charged for being over hight on the ferries so check first as you could end up getting charged a hefty surcharge or of you don't declare it at time of booking you may be refused boarding depending on space allocation.
Also check the load carrying capacity of the roof bars and the car mounting points. Not sure about bracket situation you describe

Hi, Hight should be ok if it dose not exceed hight of van if you are towing,(but check with ferry company) as birder99 post check load of roof bars, if you have van on put bikes in van, unless your are towing at your Max weight for van, could mount bikes on rear of car if you can.

If in Doubt Check it Out.
We used to have a Thule box and bike carrier alongside each other on our Peugeot 406 some years ago. Can't remmeber what model box it was but is was a long slim one. Worked absolutely fine.
Hi. I assume Van refers to caravan as you've posted in that section. You do need to check the height and make sure you're within limits. Also need to check the permissible loading on the roof.
i have a 3/4 width box and carry my bike on thule 530 at same time so you should be fine. When I carry 4 bikes the outer 2 are very near the end of the roof bars but have many miles like this and very secure.
