Big beast with two doors and an 'L' shaped end kitchen, typically though and the good news is Bessacarr built light vans for their size

TDCI probably will, pull a house! I don't though have a weight here but if I remember I'll look it up tomorrow.

Bessacarr was always high spec so heating won't be lacking, no electric heating in those day but it will at least have blown air with the gas fire, however it could also have wet central heating? not sure.

That though could be a downside, the long gone maker was Optimus, however I'm fairly sure Alde in Northampton can do something about spares and repair, it being the fore runner of their system.

Important then if fitted that it works or you could end up paying out to get it fixed.

Chassis is Alko so no problems there, damp though is the other possible big problem, Bessacarr being no better than any other manufacturer on this score

Empty weight in 1990 was 23.1cwt, 91 23.3cwt, 92 23.6cwt, 93/94 24.6cwt, 95 25.1cwt

So roughly 1170kgs up to 1270kg over the years, (as I said light for a 20 foot T/A caravan!) remember though these are ex-works weights, so anything added over the years and your kit to add on.

I Might add, the weight did not go up half as fast as the new price, £13000 on the nose in 90 but went up by roughly a grand a year to £17970 in 95!!

Hi Wiffy,we bought a 600GL 8 years ago and changed to a vanmaster last year.It was our first caravan and it was a 1992 model. When we sold the van it was in fantastic condition and was brill all the time we owned it.I still look at them on ebay to see how much they sell for. When we bought our new caravan ,we made sure it had the Alde heating system in it because we were so impressed with it in the 18year old Bessacarr. We now own a 6 year old vanmaster which we bought second hand. They are supposed to be the BEES KNEES! But it is still not as well built as the old (Bessacarr built, not swift built)Bessacarr.I would be a little bit jealous if you pitched next to me in your new van because I know how well ours served us.Hope this helps you to make up your mind, good luck.

Ahhhh twohoots thanks so much for this!!  I was really worried after buying without talking to hubby but after doing research its beginning to look like a good choice!

Can I ask if you have any pictures of your old van?

Any tips or anything I should know?

I pick it up the weekend and can't wait.

bessacarr caravans are quality vans, we had a 93 Bessacarr capri as a 1st van (hence the name), it was bloody had to find a caravan to replace ours with reagrds to build quality and equipment levels.

A wise choice as already said they were lighter around that age so np for your mondeo.
