Welcome to the site Jo, i hope you enjoy your new found hobby for many years to come.
As regards your awning, many people these days prefare a larger porch awning than a traditional fully fitted model, not only are these lighter to carry, but they are mostly universal sizes so can be transfered onto your next caravan should you ever decide to upgrade. the latest ranges can be found with extensions available or inner sleeping pods, and a good one is just as stable in high winds and storms as a traditional awning would be.
We Have a Kampa Rally 260 porch and are very pleased with it, both is quality and ease of use. we bought the rear upright poles and its as snug to the sides of our caravan as any standard awning we have ever owned over the years. They also do a 2.0mtr size and a 3.90mtr size which is almost as big as a full awning, as these are also extra deep compaired with most.
