 i don't know if its any help to anyone but an easy way to check the accuracy of a nose weight gauge is to put an accurate set of bathroom scales underneath  the gauge then lower the jockey wheel and check both readings i found that my  gauge was reading 5 kg over at 75 kg ( which is the weight i like to tow at) so i just made a mark at the correct weight with a permanent marker on the side of the gauge .  

If its not a guage that has been tested to the relevant British Standard how do you know that the guage is accurate anyway? Then, with bathroom scales underneath the guage the nose will not actually be at the tow ball height so it will not be exerting the same downward pressure on the scale as it will when hitched to the tow ball i.e van slightly leaning back.

I would trust the noseweight gauge rather than the bathroom scales.
