We've got a Bailey Ranger (single axle) and have not had any problems with it so far - it's a 2004 model. This has been our only van so don't know about how more difficult a twin axle would be.

You'll need to make sure your towcar can handle the size of van (kerbweight and noseweight).

If your considering the Senator Wyoming you will need a big heavy tow car or 4x4 with a kerbweight of at least 2000 kg as its a heavy van and when looking for a towcar you should look at the MPTLM (max loaded weight) of the van and look for a towcar thats 15% heavier than this figure .
The senator Indiana is a good bit lighter so a lighter tow car would suffice .
Both vans are good and a motormover is a must on any van but if your new to caravanning with no experience a single axle would be easier to handle .
What ever you decide do not attempt to tow with a vehicle
that is lighter in weight than the caravans max loaded figure even if the tow vehicle has a high towing capacity

I took the mover off ours,i found it quicker to just use the car,not only that it does add weight to the van and more weight means less mpg..

I've not got a mover fitted to my Caravan, and to be honest i wouldn't have one given to me for free (serious)..... I can get my Caravan out of Storage without having to move it by hand and i'm confident when reversing. If your new to towing you might find a Mover useful if your not great at reversing your unit.....

Yeah I used to think I never needed a mover until I started going to Portugal and Spain where often the pitches are nigh impossible to reverse on to and not because of there size but the access roads are often very narrow (width of the van) and with pitches ajacent which are often already in use which makes it impossible to swing I been beaten a few times
And as a Retired Class 1 driver with 29 years experience if it can be reversed on a pitch I can do it .

I wouldn't have a motor mover given either. Just a lot of extra weight to haul about. We never move the caravan by hand, it can all be done with the car.

It really does depend on your situation with movers. We have to use a mover to get our van off our drive as there is not enough room to do it with the car. If movers didn't exist then we would have to put our van into storage.

I still reverse the van onto a pitch if it can be done.

Many thanks for all your replies. Lots of talk about tow-car, im going to use a volvo xc90 manual 2.4 D5. It has a volvo tow-bar fitted rated to bull 2 tons, does it matter what tow bar is fitted, im guessing i have to factor in the down force on the bar but volvo didn't mention it, i also only have one plug?

Either of the models will be ok with the XC90, with the Wyoming being the heavier of the two (exact weights depend on year of model).
The 'down force' you refer to is the noseweight (limit will be on the towbar somewhere, probably marked with an 'S' number in kgs) and you must ensure the van is loaded adequately to avoid exceeding this weight. Noseweight is usually about 7% of the vans laden weight, but must be 4% minimum as legal requirement.

As for the plug, is it a 13pin type, or just a single black 7 pin?

Well please tell me what people did before motor movers came along? After all us british have been caravaning on the continent since the 1950's! I can understand people owning them if they can't physically move there caravan without one but like i said I don't require one....

I currently have a Wyoming, our previous van was an Indianna. Both are very good. Much better that the previous 4 caravans we had that were all from the Swift stable. I think Bailey are good value for money.

If you have not towed before you might find the twin axle a litte daunting although I think they are easier than single axles to tow.

With regard to a mover I would not have one whilst I am fit. But can see the advantages for some people. In my case if I am not able to position the van with the car then it is not going there!

One plug is fine if it is the 13 pin type, new vans have 13 pin single plugs also.

The nose weight of the Wyoming is difficult to get below 95kg so check the "S" rating of the towbar, they do vary by manufacturer and do not always meet the cars capability. With our Indianna it was easy to achieve 85kg nose weight. (which was the max on the grand voyager)
