Awkward to describe, but I think your refering to the thinner pole that sits towards the top and 'loops' round from each side.
This usually sits behind the two main poles and either end then sits into a pair of pockets about 12-14" below the awning rail, i.e., not at top corners of porch. Have you physically checked the pockets? Sometimes when the awning is up the pockets will close and it's awkward to get the pole in. Thread behind main poles towards top (clips on fabric will illustrate where, then tuck each end into pocket.
Funnily enough, Outdoor Revolution have instructions for most of their awnings, except this one. If you're still stuck ,perhaps email them at cuserv at blue-diamond-products.co.uk for specific sheet for your porch (edit email address to include the proper AT symbol).
