We are thinking of buying our first caravan. We are on our third year of camping, but feel we would like to take the plunge and buy our first van.Do you get better deals on them at the end of the season. We are off to France for 2 weeks in August camping so not just ready to buy just yet.We have been looking on some websites just to get some idea of price and layouts we like,is they a best time to buy.
I would imagine that caravan prices are much cheaper in the winter months. I have heard that its best to buy a unit between september to november.. Let us all know how the camping trip to france goes as we are considering a trip to france camping but that will most likley be next season

When you find the one you like, in the condition you are looking for, at the price you want to pay. Finding good quality second hand vans can be difficult at any time of the year. Buying new is a different story.
I am not so sure about that jaysere03, We bought our van a few month ago with loads of extras and paid a nice price of £320 off e-bay. now vans that are exactly the same as mine with No extras are going for well over £500. Or Maybe i was just lucky
We bought our first van(brand new) just about 5 weeks ago and got a great deal. Most internet sites are still selling at £3k more than we paid. So no, winter is not always the best time to buy.
Once apon a time winter, now I don't know, I think it's when you find the right van for you.caravans seem to be holding their price more whatever the season.
i bought my van middle of summer for less than same van in not as good condition was sold on ebay for £900 more. I think its about what seller wnats for i and what the demand for that caravan is.
if more than 1 person is bidding on the same item then it will go up in price if only 1 person has interest in it. maybe its a trick question

I buying privately, the best time to buy is when the right van is for sale and the seller needs the money. This can be any time of year, but there tend to be more people desperate to sell just before Christmas.
If you are prepared to make enough low offers though, eventually you will find someone who needs the cash enough to take the offer. I just bought a used caravan and offered the seller 15% below the asking price despite the asking price having already been dropped by over 7% so we actually got it at a reduction of more than 20% on the original asking price and would have paid at least an extra 50% if we had bought it from a dealer. What's more we also got all sorts of extras that a dealer would have sold separately.
Thankyou for all the advice. We are wanting a 4 berth really no older than 5 years old.we had look round a couple at the weekend its so easy to fall in love with them, its nice to have a nosey and get some ideas of the lay outs you like.We know the towing limit so were looking within that.Thankyou
I don't know about the best time to buy but if you go to a dealer, always ask for a no-trade in discount, I found dealers can offer between £500 and £800 off depending on caravan and dealer, and this was on good second hand ones.
still can't sleep and on old threads, if you're looking to buy new, buy now because van prices just seem to be going up and up, the rises in the last few years are astonishing! if you're looking to buy second hand most people will say buy now as it's end of season but I've always thought it makes more sense to buy the same model year/van type in 6 months because it will be a year older, have probably been in storage over winter so no more use and will be cheaper because it's "aged". I'm always amazed how many people think they'll get a better deal now on a used one instead of waiting til March or so
We have just sold our van (went yesterday at asking price) and had plenty of people interested in buying. I would say that now is a good time. I managed to get £1000.00 off the one I bought (private sale) simply because the seller wanted to go to the dealer with cash and no part exchange, to haggle for more discount.
I admit to thinking to myself when deciding to sell, that "it's nearing end of season", it wont sell quickly. I was wrong.
So get out there and find the van you want and enjoy it! Have fun.
