I sort of expected something was amiss when I drove in and saw rabbits lying on the grass sunning themselves in broad daylight and sticking two fingers up at the humans!

Love it LOL

The Devizes club site is not too bad actually. It is in a prime location and has everything anyone would need. It's just that quite often I seem to be offered rough pitches initially and have to negotiate a better one before I can get pitching and that becomes annoying and rather tiresome after awhile. Perhaps I look like a pushover and get offered the pitches with the rabbit holes and mole hills that nobody else would accept.

I was lead to believe that Club sites are second to none so was extremely disappointed to find that my very first club site experience was at a site with rabbit holes in the pitches...not a problem for caravans and motorhomes but a huge problem for large tents with SIGs.

In fact, all in all I seem to have had a few teething problems with the C&CC, what with being told initially by the club booking system that the Devizes site was full, then being told by the site itself that it wasn't full (nowhere near I discovered), and then finding rough pitches on arrival, things can only get better

...and I still haven't received my monthly magazine!

We are members of both and all of the sites we have stayed on have been exceptionally well kept, toilet facilities kept as clean as possible, in addition I have also stayed on commercial sites which are almost on a par with club site fees, however, pitch size seems to be smaller on commercial sites and some are not as well looked after!
It all comes down to personal preference in the end.

Have to say I've always found sites from both clubs to be immaculate, and dare I say the CC to be too immaculate sometimes; may seem a funny thing to say, but we have cut down on using club sites (particulary CC) as we are finding them to be too regimented and formal, and the wardens a little on the stern side. I can assure you we are very well behaved, but I just start feeling Big Brother's watching. Also for a family with a 17 year old daughter (who does under mild protest still come with us) plus younger son, club sites are getting pretty pricey. We have started to discover the joys of CLs and CSs from £8 per night to £12 per night, some with EHU, some with facilites; don't really mind either way.

We are also members of both, we originally joined the C&CC as we wanted to stay at Chertsey and it was cheaper to join than pay the non member penalty price.  At the moment we are finding the CC more useful to us as their touring abroad section is absolutely brilliant, and they have arranged our tunnel & overnight stops for us - we used them last year too, so we have come to trust this service.  We haven't actually stayed at many sites belonging to either yet though - we have young children and require a play area, plus we like to have facilities & so far their sites just haven't ticked the bill in the locations desired.  However, I do feel that you can be assured of a certain level of quality when you book with either organisation.

C and CC have arranged our ferry and campsite in France and I think we saved a little.  The site choices abroad are limited but never the less the site I have chosen I am very pleased with and may have chosen if booking direct.  I did try seraching for cheaper crossings but the c and CC offer could not be beaten.   We use the main club sites a few times a year as we like decent showers for a start!   And as said above like the fact that we are not charged extra for our two dogs or awning.

As I have said on a number of threads we did not believe the Camping & Caravan club offered good value in their sites or other offers.

Others will disagree.

Too right ...and I do...

We have stayed on two sites now and have saved way way more than the membership fee...and two sites that we could not have used if we were not members.

I wondered before hand if there was any point in joining...however it has become a no brainer...If we don't co out again all year it would have still been money well spent on what we have saved

I can honestly say that we haven't used the Camping & Caravanning Club to the full advantage like some have but a couple of months ago I wanted to try our new caravan out for the first time so we were looking for a site for 4 nights with electric hook up. The local CL wanted £11 per night which would have been £44 but having the concession rate for being over the age of 55 we checked out Kingsbury Water Park. They have a policy 4 nights for the price of 3 so with EHU and all the facilities as well for just over £40 was no contest, the C&CC site won hands down. Although the prices are escalating each year along with the fuel costs, the CL should in fact be much cheaper and they're not so I consider the C&CC good value in todays market.

we stayed on one site and that came to £87 for 8 nights at £10 per night and £7 for what we used in electricity.

this time its £40 for 4 nights with electric.... the fishing is extra but you would have that anywhere really

both sites offer no less for us facility wise than the sites we have payed £17-£22 a night for
