just been looking at the gaslowe stuff, and come across these
safefill
anyone seen/heard about them, seems alot cheaper than a complete gaslow system, and easier to swap about too, apparently they are at the NEC.
just been looking a bit more, and seems very good, I have a fill station near me (ie one that will definaly let you fill a bottle by itself) and a fill would be about 1/2 the price of calor, and seeing as Im on my 3rd bottle this year is quite a saving.

I think the Safefill is a good idea , but what sort of connection fittings would you need , and i think it could be frustrating not being allowed to refill after you've searched for a petrol station that has gas .

Its the same as Gaslow, a refillable cylinder that can be filled direct from a UK fitting autogas pump. You would need a set of adaptors to fill at pumps in other European countries same as you would use on an lpg fuelled car.

its similar to the gaslowe, but its not a fixed unit, its designed, and approved to be removed, the gaslowe is a LPG Tank for installation.
I e-mailed for some more info, the valve on the tank is a dual purpose, ie you use it to connect to the van, and also used for filling, it uses a standard LHthread propane connector.
The connector has a one way valve in it, so if you open the valve with nothing connected, there is no gas escape.
You need a screw-LPG connector to refill, this does not operate the one way valve, so if you left the screw valve open with the fill adaptor on, there is no gas escape.
Filling, the pressure of the gas opens the one way valve to fill, it also has a overfill protection on it.
to me the plus of these is, lightweight cylinder, cheaper (gaslowe seems to be £120 for cylinder, and another £70 for the fill kit), much easier to swap between units.
and the big plus for me is you can get it to fill it easier, don't have to try to get your caravan onto a forecourt.
ok, some places dont like them yet, but looking at their map, I do have a filling station near me thats "approved"

Most people I know now are using normal Calor cylinders and using an adaptor from the net (around £40.00) to refill "normal cylinders" They give you the fill limits for each cylinder size to stop overfilling. They even now do one thats around £50.00 that fits into your car to look like an autogas nozzle for those garages that are a bit funny about it. Its far cheaper than the Calor refills and in essence all cylinders are refillable. And before people jump down my throat yes they are unsafe if not used correctly and you don't follow the instructions and guidance, however this is the same for any compressed gas cylinder no matter who has filled it. Just remember to swap the cylinder for a new one from calor after about 3-4 fills so you get a cylinder that is in test date.

Having seen the damage done to a friends hand using an ebay adapter on a standard calor unrefillable bottle i would advise against using one . Using an adapter on one of the newer lightweight calor bottles is a disaster waiting to happen.....

the new bottles have the same pressure tests so it really makes no differance.incorrect use cant be blamed on anyone other than the user .if the adaptor was at fault please enlighten us.

Exactly, and I stand by what I said that all cylinders are refillable. Do you think once they are empty Calor throw them away? I have been on the filling decks at the company that I work for and seen how cylinders are filled. It is an adaptor screwed into the bottle on a weighing scale and a computer opens the valve and shuts it off when the cylinder is the correct weight. If you ensure the fitting is on correctly and tight and do not exceed the stated fill amount (which does account for expansion space) then I can't see the problem. Like anything, if you abuse it or don't follow the safety guidelines then your asking for trouble. Otherwise I don't see how cylinders/adapters spontaneously explode?
