I forgot our toilet a year or so ago, we used the van at easter, then with unforseeable circumstance didnt use it again till october, nasty.....
just charcoal wont work, but if you use activated charcoal, buy it from petshops/pond shops, its used in filters, this will work.
I always open the fridge, and put the transit lock in to stop it shutting, iot only needs to be open a crack, I usually give it a squirt with a plastics safe anti back too.

When I empty the toilet at the end of the break, I usually set it up for next time (the bottom tank, not the flush water), so our toilet is always useable at a push. Even over the winter, there is so little liquid involved in the bottom tank, it doesn't really make that much difference.
When we had our old van, we had forgotten to drain the water down, so I went across to do it. While I was there I was absolutely desperate for the loo so decided to use the caravan facilities. As I was standing there, to my amazement my glasses fell off my nose and ended up down the hole of the toilet. Not only could I not retrieve them, but the mobile phone signal was nil so could not summon assistance. Try as I might, I couldn't manage to get my glasses out of the loo - I couldn't see to get them. In the end I had to take out the toilet cassette and take it home in the car. The awkward thing was, with my glasses firmly ensconsed in the toilet cassette, seeing to drive was not an easy task. I ended up driving home up all the country lanes so as to avoid traffic. Eventually managed to retrieve glasses later on in the afternoon, much to the amusement of the rest of the family, by using the barbecue tongs. Needless to say the barbecue tongs were confined to the bin and I bought glasses as soon as possible. I now always keep a spare pair of glasses in the car + a pair of prescription sun glasses.
The story always manages to get a laugh at drinks time in the awning with friends..... and now the whole world knows!!

Greetings,
This thread has had a very good airing???
We have had a van in the past that developed a fault with the cassette of the toilet that caused liguids to divert away from the cassette and onto the carpet (through the base of the loo.
It created one unholy smell that was neutralized almost instantly by using copious amounts of enzyme cleaner (used after your pet has had an accident) obtainable from pet stores.
Not cheap but very effective.
------------- How come when some people visit the fountain of knowledge, they only gargle!!!
