Welcome to the world of caravans - you'll love it!!  We've just switched from a Countryman FC to an Elddis caravan.  We got our insurance from the C&CC because we had our FC insured with them & their quote was very reasonable. We bought our wheelclamp & hitchlock from the dealers. Our caravan came with waterpump, gas bottles & the rest of the equipment we transferred from our camper.

It will all seem a bit overwhelming until you start to use it - have fun!!

Congratulations on your 1st van!

If you find the Abbey website you should be able to download electronic versions of the manuals/hand book/technical spec etc...

After that, the best thing you can do is spend lots of time on here looking back through old threads, learning & asking lots of questions as you go.  It might seem daunting at 1st but once you've got your 1st trip under your belts you'll never look back

What car have you got to tow it with? That "may cause problems itself. It may have been fine for the folding caravan but may not be up to the task of the van.

If its a people carrier or 4x4 you will definatly be fine, but if it is something like a Focus or an astra then.......

Hi from another newbie!

I got hitchlock and wheel clamp from towsure, both Milenco, really easy to fit and between £30 and £40 each. Check what else you need and order in one go, it'll get expensive with delivery charges otherwise!

I insured my van through E&L, loads cheaper than others and read plenty positive reviews about them first, fearing the old 'you get what you pay for'.....

Above all..... ENJOY!!!

Again I was generalising, Yes a 1.6 focus is quite happy pulling a 900kg van.......I'm planning on a similar weight van behind my 1500 Lada Riva

However from the infomation given at the start of the thread, the van that has been bought has a MTPLM of between 1300 and 1400 kg
