Hi all,
Just a quickie...
I've been advised to lubricate the awning rail with a silicon based lubricant.
Do I have to buy the expensive ones from the caravan stores or can anyone recommend a household product etc. that may do the same thing?
I'm not being stingy but as it's our first proper break in our newly bought van, it's been a quite expensive few weeks!
Cheers
Looked into this myself yesterday. It was £5.50 for a can at my caravan dealers. Having looked on this forum it seems many use silicone based furniture polish such as mr sheen & get the same results. I'm going to try this next time I use my awning.
Its a quick squirt along the rail with Sainsbury's own brand furniture polish twice a year for us, and it works so well that sometimes the awning falls back out of the awning chanel when we dont want it to lol, during erection!

Someone once offerred a tip in a magazine that they used candle wax on the awning cord that goes through the rail.
i use W5 silicone oil from Lidl , its transparent - odourless - repells water - and its cheap ,or i use mr sheen , i spray around the rail and spray some on a cloth and wipe the awning bead , once every season
