Just come back from a cotswolds site, slightly bemused by a) the attitude of wardens and b) the behaviour of a certain caravan mag journalist.
The latter arrived yesterday and after many false starts and engaging the help of site wardens, erected a rather unsecure looking and saggy awning. This morning saw heavy rain and gusts and lo and behold, said awning worked it's way loose, flapping away like a sail (journo having gone out for the day). After several concerned conversations with fellow campers, raised this with one of the wardens and was told not to touch it as we could be accused of causing more damage to it. Made my way back to the van just in time to see the awning make a break for freedom, narrowly missing taking out a passerby. Fie of us collectively took the decision to take the awning down and stuff it underneath the van before it wrapped itself across someone's van or car or even a person. In the meantime, both unsecured rooflights had been blown open with force and the rain was pouring in.
Look forward to the write up in the next edition of a certain magazine!!
we had almost the same result at a site in devon, when we saw an awning destroying its self on one of the season pitchers, we reported it and they just left it, needless to say in the morning when all the wind had stopped, it was like a bomb site, and still they did nothing, we left a day early and by 1600 when we left nothing had been done,
RoddersTrotter- cold I'm afraid. However nice piccie of journo picking up the test van in the April 2011 edition of the mag. Feel sorry for whoever buys that van when it goes back to the dealer.
Still surprised by the wardens though-when i went back to say the awning had detached itself so we'd secured it under the van, she was very concerned that we had witnesses in case of any comeback!!
Well we are thinking of emailing Mr Journo to see what he has to say for himself! So much for 'written by caravanners for caravanners' - oh and if anyone knows the answer to 23 across in the April issue crossword I'd be grateful....
I'm sure the jurno will write a glowing report of caravan & awning, he knows who pays his wages. I'm guessing he didn't even sleep in't caravan overnight.
Embarressing for the Jurno, but....OMG, what on earth was the Warden talking about. Caravaners by nature help each other out in these situations. PC gone mad again. Too much of this these days with this "don't get involved just incase one chance in 10 thousand that you might be sorry, cross over to the other side of the street and walk on by" ludicrous attitude.
I can see a possible strain of thinking behind it, but really??
