Been upto caravan tonight to change some window trim and thought I would give the water heater a few hrs to see if it gets warm as we are not sure if it works I left it on for about 1 and half hrs and no hot water so I thought I would have a look outside at heater vent and noticed water dripping from the screw that you use to empty water from tank so I gave it a tighten with screw driver and it still leaks water no matter how tight I turn the screw and there is still no hot water, its getting me down now because I don't know what I am doing with it, does anyone know how much it will cost to get someone to look at it?
Seems the plug has been striped. They cost about 7 quid i think for a new one.its not expensive and you can do it yourself unless where the plug goes in might be stripped to /

PS look at the back of the heater inside the van there is a reset button and this might have switched off if there was no water in the tank..press it back on.

leak, sounds like the washer is missing on the screw plug.could be a non return valve fault and water is not getting into the tank.indication, cold water ok.no water at the hot taps before heating.with drain plug out water only trickles out with the pump running,it should gush out.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Wrap some plumbers joint tape round the threads of the bung that will stop the leak about 4 turns of tape going from right to left so that it wont come off
Thanks for all your help I will go up to caravan and do what everyone has suggested, what price would I be lookin at for someone to come and look at the heating system?
Thanks again
right i have sorted the water leaking out through the drain plug i used some plumbers tape on threads and also changed the washer i had one the right size in my box of tricks lol. but still no hot water i had gas turned on tonight and nothing the green light stays on as if all is well. so i took the outside vent off and gave the gas bits a clean and still nothing when i turned the switch on and off the green light stays on, and i cant find an isolation switch for the elecrical side of things and deffo no reset on end of water tank as mentioned by jeff juke. i wonder if the battery being flat does that make a difference even when using ehu???
I thought craig when i read your post you said no matter how hard you tightned the plug it still leaked ?there fore i suggest a new plug as you described the plug as stripped.
I would have mentioned the washer but didnt see the point. My water heater will heat water when no battery is present,
The picture shows a gas only model so hardly likely to find a reset button to press for electric heating? it ain't got one!
You should not use anything on the drain bung to 'help' seal it, it just needs the correct sized 'O' ring, (18 x 2.5mm) and it will seal.
If though it's stiff screwing in, then you will need to clean the metal threads and the 'O' rings seat in the heat exchanger, easy way to do this is to wrap some wire wool around a 10mm drill bit and using a battery drill, spin the wire wool in the hole.
Using tape or ignoring stiffness will only end up with the drain bung getting jammed and eventually a worse problem!
As for the heating problem, the heater will not switch on if voltage is 10.3V or less, if voltage is above this, it will try to work but is hit and miss below 11 volts.
If above 11v then much depends on age of the burner module actually doing the heating and failure to work could be for half a dozen or more reasons
