Should the people camping next to us be? At a c and cc site at the mo and the people next to us have some kind of awning 2.5 metres at the most away from us. Tent pegs come closer than that! Wouldn't mind but they r noisy and have happy dogs that they don't even try to shut up!

I think there's supposed to be a minimum 6 metres between units for fire safety, but I'm not sure if they count awnings into that.
You could always ask the site manager, they are usually very helpful on C&CC sites. You will probably have the option of moving pitches - the easiest option - rather than risk the ire of the neighbours if you told them to shut up!

6m excluding guy ropes between units - speak the the Manager or HSA if you are unsure as the club is normally quite strict about it and ensuring the fire gap is adequate.

the 6m fire rules on this are very strict with both clubs.just mention it to the warden.they will sort it right away. from the rule book but does not include ropes
e) Units, excluding guy ropes, must be 6m apart from adjacent units. This is a precaution against fire. Vehicles can be parked between units, provided that 3m clear space is left within the 6m gap at all times.

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
The site licence sets out the minimum space requirements, and if the site is inspected whilst this breach exists the Club could find itself in a little difficulty with the enforcing Authorities. Hence Clubs need to enforce it. The Warden should be asking them to move whether you mention it or not thus, if you do mention it, they should not know that you have raised it.
Campers should be fully aware of the rules and of the need for this rule and observe it. Maybe having it pointed out will help them in the future.

These rules are specifically for the UK. No doubt they have some rules over there but I can't help
