I  have searched and read some posts on this forum but would like an up to date view from anyone who has either of the following sat navs:

The Garmin Nuvi 465 which has 'Lane assist' (hubby would like to have this) or the

Snooper Ventura S2000 Europe Maps & Campsites which doesn't have 'lane assist'.

Any info or views on either of these would be great, please.

I've just bought a TomTom with Lane Assist.

Garmin are good as are TomTom, users preference.

Can you add Touring and Campsites as POIs?

I heard the Garmin is good & I'll probably be getting one when the old TomTom gives up. I won't be looking for one which claims to be lorry or Caravan friendly though. I think they're just a money spinner. I often have to use mine to find delivery points but I don't always take the first option it gives me. All the stories I hear where Sat Navs are blamed for vehicles being stuck in a bad spot just go in one ear & out of the other. It's the drivers decision whether or not to take a turning or turn round when the road looks dodgy at the end of the day.

True, I think that also, we have the snoopers600, which has been excellent with all the acsi campsites and all the cc and the ccc sites, can't update them though it'd add them yourself, I would still fi for the tom tom tho if I hadn't bought this one.

Tom tom has a lot of updatable poi,s.

Lane guidance is not available with snooper which would be useful, we have a 4 ton wide vehicle and it hasn't taken us down a road we couldn't go through yet though.
Tom tom is hgv specific so gives you truck stops and stuff which we don't use.

Thanks all for your replies. Hubby does like the look of the Snooper but think we'll carry  on with our TomTom for now and keep looking at them. He would like to have lane guidance as we have on our TomTom. Maybe, in time, it will be introduced to Snooper.

We have got a garmin with lane assist.  This is fantastic when towing as it gives you plenty of notice if you have to change lanes or not near to junctions or motorway exits.  Saves having to suddenly change lanes with a caravan on the back and especially when it is busy.  Go for the garmin with lane assist.

i have had sat navs since they came out. i have found tom tom to be the most reliable of them all, being a truck driver going all over the uk i have never had a problem. i am currently using a tom tom 550 live which is very good and has lane assist.i also use a truckers map with the tom tom to make sure all is well.

the tom tom's are easier to install third party poi's too.

Our son has suggested that because our new van has a truma motor mover we don't need a towcar because we can sit in the front lounge and steer it with the remote through the front window !!!! No satnav required with this option !!!!

We didn't tow a caravan when sat navs weren't around!

I remember driving through France some years ago with a heavy laptop on my lap and Autoroute to guide us! The laptop got very hot and Autoroute never kept up  fast enough! Nightmare! So glad there are sat navs now!
