I have a 2 year old son and am collecting a new caravan next week (exciting!) In our current van, which is very old, my husband rigged up a cot with a piece of plywood to keep the little one safely in bed. We don't fancy messing around with the new caravan and wonder if anyone has any words of wisdom based on thier own experience. Do those Tomy bed guards fit in a caravan or is there anything else I could do to stop him rolling out?
Do you have bunks at the rear. If so we got a clamp on wooden bedguard from Ikea which fits on to our middle bunk which doesn't have a guard at all, but Im sure it would also fit on to an existing bedguard to make it taller. My son was just 3 when we put it in and he's never fallen out.

hija, we have fixed bunks and our 18mth old uses the bottom bunk. i bought a pink bed guard from kiddicare- i think the make was 'summer' something. its great and works a treat, it was just over 20 quid.
hope that helps!

Our middle fixed bunk also did not have a guard so we used a BabyDan bed guard we bought in John Lewis. It is quite strong, easy to fix and has a large mesh panel. As our son was under 2, and the bunk was so high, we wanted something that would also keep him from trying to climb out himself. This has worked really well for us.
I wasn't sure if those guards would fit in a caravan bunk so its reassuring to know that they do. I think a trip to mothercare and Ikea beckons tomorrow. Incidentally, looking at the Kiddicare site, it says they are not easy to install on slatted beds. Did you have any difficulty?
We have triple fixed bunks and because we only use the top two (using the bottom one for storage), we use the extra mattress from the unused bunk and fit the bed guard between the two mattresses, so that the adjustable hinge of the guard is above the edge of the bunk. The bed guard then opens and closes for him to get in and out of his bunk.
We have also used the bed guard on a slatted bed at home but because the guard was tucked between the mattress and the side of the bed, the hinge didn't work. However, all that means is that you can't fold it down, it would still stop them falling out.
Hija, nope and I did it myself! seemed easy enough to me, the only negative thing we find with it is its supposed to hinge forward easily to lift baby out, its a bit of a pain, the mechanism isnt too good. aside from that it keeps our little one in so all good!
