if you use these in your sky box be warned after non use for a couple of weeks these are turned off and no longer work.this was confirmed by sky when i asked why.i have had to ring sky from the caravan on my mobile at a cost of about £3 each time to get the card repaired.this is done remotely by sky, this has needed to be done three times.the way round it is to use the card each week for a few hours at home before you go.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Funny we have had one of these cards in our caravan for about 2 years and never had a problem - despite long periods of non-use - do you know if it something new they have introduced???

do not know but from the sound of his voice i think they are now doing this.i was most annoyed at the cost of paying £3 each time on the phone for a £20 card.he seamed unconcerned about this.problem is you do not know until you set up at the campsite and switch on and channel 5 is missing. cards are supposed to last about three years. i have three cards in use and this only happens to the one used for the caravan sky box.

Up to now we have not had an issue with our card which we have had for about 3 years. If they switch it off, they are acting illegally as you have paid for the service!
Instead of using a mobile phone to contact them, we normally use email and get a response within 24 hours.
I understand that Sky send out regular keep alive signals to their boxes. If your box is not turned on for a period of time the card will miss the signal and go to sleep. When you turn the box on again some channels will be missing ie 5, the card should reactivate when it receives the next keep alive signal but it can take up to 3 days. Sky can send a forced signal if you request it. Try leaving the box on standby for a few days before your next trip and the card should come alive.
I have just put a sky box in my caravan but it has no card. I get the FTA channels and can get CH5 through other channels, so I am curious to know what a £20 card would give me above this ???

believe a phone line must be used for this.when i do ring up from the caravan he repairs it there and then over the phone.it can take two or three hours to come through though with the fix.if you use the same box at home then this problem may not arise.

I understand that the signal comes from the satellite, the phone line is for interactive services, (I've done this with mine and it's not connected the the phone line). As pmc001 says the box will work without a card but will revert to the default EPG with no 5 channels or Pick TV. You will get BBC1 London and I think ITV1 NW
i have had the £20 card for years , i just changed it once when they were updating all cards , my box has never been attached to a phone line and its months before i use it some times , we have used as far as Barcelona in Spain and never had any trouble ,
