We've had our van for a year now and every trip I have said "I've forgotten..."  The great thing about caravanning is you learn to adapt.

On our first  trip we bought everything the dealer recommended as essential only to find it didn't include tubing for the grey waste (tap water).

You will quickly find that no-one minds you asking for help, most have spares and will gladly help you out.

Word of warning - very addictive, you will continue spending!!!

Hi, welcome & contragulations to all the 'new' caravanners!

The list of what you 'need' can go on forever (ours gets longer everytime we go away).  As long as you have the basics like fresh water carrier, waste hog, electric cable (if using hook-up), gas bottle etc... you can take most other things from home & figure out what you forgot & what you didn't use.

The main thing to take is your sense of humour - especially the 1st time you put an awning up!

Do what I did and buy your first caravan off an old hand who is giving it up due to health. You get the van for a fair price, you get every bit of kit imaginable thrown in, including the stuff where you go " what if I need" then open a cupboard or locker and it's there. It's like buying a much loved cottage on wheels.

But, more importantly, just go out and enjoy it. If you find you need something, go get it, or leave it till next time. Most important is  - Just enjoy the moment. Nothing that is missing is going to kill you.
