You can always use the hgv area if no room in the caravan bit.(usually full of cars and white vans in most service areas!)
i would not recomend that. how would you like a 44 ton truck parked in the car park.
i am a truck driver and sometimes have to park up for the night by law, but cannot get in there for some inconsiderate caravaners.
you will sometimes get a special area for caravaners too. so use them.

If there is a special caravan area, we ALWAYS use it. But often, as said, it is full of white vans, motorhomes, or cars, whose drivers obviously cannot read signs.
In that case we either drive on, or use the lorry park. We only ever stop for lunch, never more than 1 hour, but our need to stop is as pressing as a lorry driver's.
Why should we be less entitled to stop than a lorry?
You're not less entitled to stop than a lorry Jennifer, the simple difference is, a lorry has to stop before the driver runs out of time & he has no choice.
Lots of service areas would direct a caravan outfit to park in the lorry park anyway so surely the best advice is to go & pay for your parking & park where they direct you.
It'll be interesting to see how cravannersget on with Michaewood services from now on. They've reconstructed the place & built a new forecourt in part of the lorry park on each side. This has reduced the available space considerably & could cause people problems.
If this is the Hythe services i believe they have two large laybys inside which i think could fit 4-5 caravans in each. They are in the process of extending the lorry park area. The car park has height barriers so you wont get in there. These services are quite new and to be honest ive never seen it full. Even if the services are full you shouldnt have a problem driving in and out as the road is caravan friendly.
Just noticed this post and had to respond, this really needs sorting by the services using their wardens to impose a minimum £50 fine to any car or van parking in the (normally few caravan spaces) at the services.
I am a Sales 'Manager for a haulage company , and a keen caravannerand see it from all perspectives. In my job i drive approx 40k per year
Everybody who has commented on here is right, truck drivers must have their legal rest breaks and the lorry parks are essential for them at the services, however I have been forced to park in the lorry parks from time to time due to totally inconsiderate car drivers who wish to picnic in the caravan read or just can't be bothered to drive into the car area, because it might be closer tote toilets etc. I have found this on the French autoroutes on holiday in August also, sometimes having to move on to two or three services before being able to park up.
As far as I am concerned the owners of the motorway services should impose heavy fines for inconsiderate drivers. Then caravanners who are not allowed in the car area for obvious reasons don't end up taking HGV spaces through necessity.
It does make me mad when people with NO caravas park in the caravan area. Once on the M5 we had no option b ut to stop at a services, there were no caravan spaces so hubby pulled up on the edge of what we thought was the lorry park and an attendant came to tell us we can't park there, its for coaches! Where is the attendant to tell cara snot to park in the caravan area? You've guessed it - there isn't one!
I do appreciate that lorry/coach drivers have to stop by law but everyone is told to 'take a break' but how can we? Urgh!!
