Looking to insure our new pride and joy which we pick up this weekend. What are your experiences? Should we stick with Caravan Club, who we were with for the old Wisp, or are other companies better. I am also keen to find out your experiences when making a claim. Many thanks x
Hi we went through moneysupermarket and just went for the cover that suited us(we think), we chose Equine and Leisure but they might not be the cheapest or the best cover for you.
We changed our caravan 3 weeks into our insurance with E & L and we scanned the Net and they still came up the best, and they only charged us for the 3 weeks(our new caravan was worth alot more).
Yes its a minefield out there but you do need insurance(even though we never had any for 2 years) its piece of mind. Oh well I have said enough, Have Fun.
From someone who has made a claim, I can vouch for the Caravan Club. When we had our last van stolen they were excellent IMHO. I sent them a comprehensive list of contents with prices and the value of our old van as new. I told them the brand new van we wanted and where we wanted it from (after having worked out the companies that we due to have one in soon). They paid for the van direct and sent me a check for the rest of the stuff. No interview, no difficult/awkward questions - I know some that have been insured with other companies who have had a gruelling 2 hour interview after theft of a van). There was no suggestion of questioning what I had listed or the prices on my inventory. They waited the standard 4 weeks for the van to be recovered and they sent out the cheque for contents the week after. We picked up the new van, complete with motor mover the week after that on the way to our summer holiday.
They are more expensive than some companies, but the service that we received on this occasion would make me think very carefully before moving my caravan insurance elsewhere. Just make sure that you are fully covered. I would never skimp and have foundthe real value of having a good insurance company and cover.
Ours is due soon and we can't decide between Lifesure and Caravan Club. We are with Lifesure at the moment but OH said when he organised all our Red Pennant and travel stuff with the CC last year that this year we would renew with CC. Only problem is that its coming up nearly £100 more on ours for new for old so Im thinking we may stick with Lifesure.
Thanks all. We are too young for Saga (we're in our 30s!) after trawling the net last night, the Caravan Club are no more expensive than others. In fact they were £100 less than AA. OH thinks we should stick with them.

If you are getting a good quote from the CC, personally, I wouldn't hesitate in sticking with them.
We are with the CC too. We had our first ever claim last September (a complete new back panel), it was dealt with promptly with no problem.
We are insured new for old and just had our renewal in. We have dropped back on our NCD due to the claim, back to 2 years, so for £22500 cover we would now be £375. However we do need to review that cover as the equivalent new van is now quite pricey.
I will dig out last years paperwork to see how much extra that claim is costing us.

Yep. I've got to review mine too - due for renewal this month. In the past I have rung them up and they have advised cover based on their price list.
I've just got a quote for our new to us van and the C&CC are coming out best for us (tried CC and Lifesure). Also the premium is £85 less if we fit an Alko wheel lock over any other insurance approved lock. Anyone know the best price for an Alko wheel lock?

I was looking at Alco wheel locks and they are nearly £250 which seems a bit steep. A milenco heavy duty wheel clamp is £100 and you can ibviously get lower rate ones for a lit less.
CC all the way... they know caravanning (as they should) and I have never heard anything other than positive, including Red Pennant cover. Not cheap but peace of mind is worth the extra. Just a pity that CC membership is necessary to insure with them.
Saga was attractive at first but there have been some horror stories when claims have arisen.
We was not in the CC at the time so I couldn't get the savings, but now we are we will have a good look at them too when the time comes.
We have only just booked our first cc campsite but its one of those little one's (Not a proper CC, I don't understand how it works but Im sure I will get the gist) as long as its clean and people are helpfull, we should be fine.
Going back to the insurance, I'm not that tight but its our first Proper Insurance on a van so Please don't shoot me for not picking CC insurance. Done!
