Some horrible people (trying not to swear) thought it would be great to go and break into caravans on Thursday night. They went round the whole storage yard and broke into around 3/4's of the vans on site. They have had a crowbar in the door and forced open. Strangely enough though they didn't take anything of value. They only took a holdall with the fabric off a gazeebo and left the poles. The van next door just had their washbags taken with there soap, flannels toothbrushes and toothpaste in. Luckily not much damage to the door and it can still be locked. Must say though the storage site owners have been superb. They were down on site all day Friday and even slept overnight on the site Friday. They have now got anti-vandal grease put on all the fences and emplyed there own security guards as the industrial estate security guards proved as much use as a chocolate fireguard. They have also agreed to pay for the damage to my door to be repaired. It certainly takes some of the stress of it all away! Bad thing but first class service from the storage site in the end.

You say that the storage owners have been superb. Well they have to be really because there will be some serious questions asked as to how they failed to protect the caravans in storage. If they have the 'Silver' award at present and want to be re-assed for the 'Gold' status they must have CCTV at least to qualify. However, an insurance claim will possibly be made on behalf of the the victims of crime due to their failings and this could affect their application in due course and could even be reduced to 'Bronze' status. Which ever way you look at it, everyone storing their caravan at the site are paying good money for the extra security which they obviously are not receiving so ask for a reduction in the payments for the next year and see what they say. I bet they say no, but then you have to it put to them that the fact of the matter is that they want the cash but not the responsibility. You could also contact your insurance company and clarify that, as you get a reduction for keeping your van on a secured site you feel that the terms and conditions have been breached by the storage owners due to the inadequate security.
