Do any of you have a tourer that you leave on just one site for weeks/months at a time? My OH goes to London quite a lot and we are considering buying a tourer and pitching it somewhere like Gloucestershire/Oxfordshire for several months. We also want the option of taking it to the coast at times so don't want a static.
Would it work out very expensive in pitch fees to do this?

We go to a lovely site near Aynho in Oxfordshire and they have permanent pitches but I think you're talking best part of 1.5 to 2K for a year.  They do have storage and tow out the vans and pitch them for you when you need them. Don't know the cost of that I'm afraid but would be a lot cheaper. We've thought about leaving ours there but we do a lot of weekends away aswell as longer holidays and don't want to be restricted to just one site for weekends. Might be just right for you.  The site is Bo Peep Farm...highly recommended.

We have ours on a seasonal pitch in Oxfordshire (Greenhill Leisure Park) and, as Alisonmc says, the cost is around £1.5k per year.  However, having calculated the number of nights we might use it and the cost of extra fuel for towing (we live around 80 miles away) we reckon it is good value, especially as we can leave our awning up so no chores to do when we get there except connect the EHU and fill the water up.  Since we are now semi retired and only work Tuesday to Thursday, we get nice long weekends!

Bo Peep has a waiting list for storage/camp we were waiting a year, and found somewhere else in the end.

Do you leave it there all year? Thanks.

We couldn't afford seasonal prices so have done the  next best thing and store it on our favourite C&CC site, we pay £200 for the season then per night when we're there (£12), works out way cheaper, if the going rate is £1500 we'd have to do over 108 nights to make a seasonal cheaper.

You can change your pitch each time you go so you get different views & don't run the risk of getting bad neighbours for a full year, only downside is not being able to leave the awning up but it only takes half hour so no problem & we use the canopy for weekends which takes 2 minutes.

Our seasonal pitch is from March to October but we also get Winter Storage included in the price.  The site is open all year but we assume we have to pay the nightly rate if we use the van from November to February.  I don't know if all the seasonal pitches have been taken for this year or not.

This is something we are thinking of doing next year, but would still like to be able to take the van off if we are going gurther afield, its gotta be within an hour of Redditch/henley in Arden so OH can get to work and then she can come down to us when she has finished without spending hours on the road,

I like the idea of being able to stay til later on a sunday instead of havin to be off by 12 and also I hate towing so this way at least I could get away with the kids easier without the stress of me having to tow.

Also some idiot (me) bought a whopping huge pool for the garden and now have now lawn left with all the other toys so I can then put the pool where the caravan is stored round the back of the house in the summer and when the van comes back in the winter I would be putting the pool away anyway.

Is it really that expensive though Just March to October??

Different sites charge different amounts.  I have seen cheaper ones than where we are.  Our rationale was this:  we worked out how many nights we are likely to use the site - bearing in mind that this is where we chose to spend our main holidays in previous years.  Add on winter storage.  Add on the fact that there is free fishing and, as 3 of us fish, this could cost £12 - £18 per day on a commercial fishery.  Then add on the fuel saving, convenience, being able to arrive as early as you like and leave as late and not having to tow or put up the awning.  At the end of this, we decided that it wasn't that expensive after all!

We went for a seasonal pitch this year as we kept gravitating to the same site time and time again.
working it out against the regular prices we've already made up the cost so basically the rest of the year works out free!!! LOL
It also allows us to use the van a lot more, as it's already set up, we can just 'up and off' at a moments notice whenever the mood (or weather) takes us.

Our favourite site has everything we need for total relaxation. Peace,Quiet and First class facilities with everything we need within easy reach. It may only be 20 miles from our home, but it could well be on another planet. We have used it at every opportunity for years.Booking is essential, and available Seasonal pitches are rare. When we told that one had become free,we were 'top of the list and could have it' we jumped at it. We save 60 miles towing fuel cost every time we use it and if we DO want a tow off site we give notice of the dates, hitch up and go to coast, lakes or wherever. The cost of the pitch while we are away is refunded. At the end of october WE winterise the van and it is towed by the site owner into locked indoor storage until the spring when the site owner repitches it for us.
