We are thinking about selling our caravan. It's on a seasonal pitch in Derbyshire and would come with a full awning (and annexe) and a porch awning as well. Additionally we would be throwing in everything that really makes this a home from home (conservatory furniture in awning, carpets, TV, freeview, and loads more). I am really on the lookout for recommendations as to where would be a good place to advertise please as I have no experience of selling caravans. Have looked at ukcampsite, ebay and autotrader but wondered what everyone's thoughts on these sites are or if there is somewhere else I am missing.
I`m probably stating the obvious, but have you advertised on the site its actually pitched on? Someone may be looking for a change or have a friend who may be interested.
What about local shops, particularly if it is in a `touristy` area, you may get day visitors who have their eyes opened to possibilities (particularly if they could keep it on the seasonal pitch).
It`s also worth putting on sites such as pre-loved, which are free to advertise on.

We've not advertised it anywhere yet to be honest. I am just trying to get some ideas of what has worked well for other people. I am going to have a chat witht he site owner this weekend as see if he'll let us put a couple of fliers up around the site.
I'll have a look at pre-loved though, thanks for that. Never even crossed my mind
We've just sold a van. I put it on here, Preloved, Gumtree, Ebay as a classified (£15) & on Caravanfinder (£35). Within the 1st week we had an enquiry through Preloved but they needed to change their towcar. Over the next week there were 15-20 people watching on ebay but no enquiries or viewings.
After 2 weeks I put it on Caravanfinder but on the same day the 1st person who'd enquired through Preloved phoned & came to see it. We agreed the price & took a deposit. Over the week from there to handing the van over we had enquiries coming out of our ears! Most from ebay with a couple from Caravanfinder & one guy off Preloved wanting to swap it for a static!
I bought mine on Preloved. It costs nothing to list it there. I looked at a few on eBay, but as I said to the seller, if I come and view it, I want to do the deal there and then. I was not prepared to travel half way across the country just to end up in a bidding war, nor was I going to buy it without looking at it. Only one bothered to get back to me. I went to see that and another one about an hour away that was advertised on Preloved. By the time I got to the second one, the first one had sold to someone else. Ebay is ok for smaller things, but stuff like caravans there is too much to lose to try selling on eBay, not least the eBay fees.
That's exactly why we did ours as a classified ad rather than an auction. That way you can decide whether or not to accept any offers & the deal itself is done outside of ebay. It costs £15 for 28 days advertising whereas I worked out if we sold as an auction it would have cost over £200.
Plus you probably won't get the price you want - we bought our new van on an ebay auction Saturday night (after viewing Saturday afternoon) & paid a lot less than we expected (£5250 for an immaculate 2005 5 berth Swift). I'd have been gutted to have sold my van so cheap but you only get what people bid. Our max bid was much higher but nobody bid against us so that was the price we paid.
My concern was that if I went to see a caravan and then went home to bid on it as soon as I placed a bid the seller would get someone to chase the bidding up on it. I would much rather to agree a figure that we are both happy with and shake on the deal there and then. Plus with the price of diesel, the prospect of several trips all over the country just to be outbid by the seller's mate held no appeal to me.
As I said earlier, Preloved (and possibly Gumtree) are free. That is probably why they have so many caravans on there. I found a far better selection of used caravans on Preloved than anywhere.
Put my van on here, preloved and ebay. 23 calls in 5 hours and van sold.Advert still running on ebay marked as sold.As it was a private cash deal only have to pay ebay the listing fee (£8.00).Hope this helps.
Mark.
We put our caravan on here, our local tesco, ebay (classified), caravanselecta and the caravan club website. Most enquiries came from ebay 58 people where watching but I put sold subject to viewing on my listing and ebay removed the listing. Still waiting for the ebayers to collect and pay.
